My first new car!!!

I still get a thrill every time I get into my 1990 GSX that I purchased Brand new in April 1990. I still have my first car that was bought for me in High School in 1983, which was a used 1977 Olds Cutlass Supreme. Although it is up on jackstands in garage with Trans out of it. Anyway... 17 Years later my GSX has 180,000 miles on OEM motor and Trans. The head ,turbo, and clutch are the only major parts that I have replaced. The body still looks great and I still get people asking me if my car is "new"? Of course they don't know much about cars they are just going by looks when I tell them its a 90 they seem confused? LOL My point to this post is to let others know that DSM cars had a Great run for 10 years and I was sad to see the end go by in

For all the Mitsubishi Haters out there, Blow me!?! I agree with you I have 1992 GS-T 118,00mi on the clock. Everything is still orginal on the car save for the timing belts. I still have to embarass the kids in the hondas and mustangs every once in a while. I get the "Is that car new?" also. As far as being reliable it's the best car I've ever owned, never left me beside the road, and starts everytime I turn the key. I'm not saying everything mitsu made is the greatest thing on earth, every car maker has made at least one model that was junk out of the box, I could name sevral. But not every mitsu out there is not the junk that the haters want to make them out to be. Personally I wouldn't trade mine for anything.

Never had a DSM new, but I have bought two used Spyder GST's. The first one was actually the better of the two but it was from Boston so had a lot of rust on it. Every time I started to work on it, I spent more time cleaning rust so I sold it. 125,000 and would have drove it cross country in a heart beat.

Second one is a Florida car with no rust but the original owner beat it pretty hard. 130,000 and I would drive this cross country also. I have put a bunch of speed mod's on this car and would stack it up against any non-built v8. Put stiffer struts on it and it handles like crazy also. I will have to change the clutch sometime in the future, but that is a replacement item..

Fast, handles well, looks good - can't beat it for the bux!

I'm just visiting here and have never owned a Mitsubishi. I do have a friend and good customer who once had 3 92 Plymouth Lasers (Re badged Mitsus)in the family. (Mom, son and daughter). Daughters car was totaled in a wreck at ~97K, son's car was scrapped at ~105K due to his neglect and refusal to spend money on maintenance, Dad took over Moms Laser at 115K and did another 125K until 2005. Excessive oil consumption due to worn rings did it in at ~240K. I maintained 2 of them well and patched up the 3rd (guess which one). The biggest issue in all 3 cars was corroded AC lines and condensers. The Adult driven car lost a trans (OD) at ~170K. Full brakes, calipers, rotors on daughters car just before the wreck. The sons car turned into a steaming pile quickly, but not because it was a Mitsubishi. Yea buddy, them's some crap cars awright. ;)

I once dated a girl who had a Colt. Funky-cute blue car that never seemed to give her problems or leave her stranded. The auto trans was pretty slushy, but it was a nice comfy car for a lady in her late teens.

I prefer Ford products, Lincolns specifically. I drive an 84 Mark VII daily and have another 90 Mark VII for a toy. If you want to see folks froth and become haters, toss out phrases like Air Suspension, Automatic Climate Control, Central Fuel Injection and Teves Anti-Lock Brakes in reference to Lincoln. They will fill you in on exactly how "poorly designed" and " overly complicated" and "unreliable"and "just plain junk" those cars are. I dunno, The problems are easy to fix if you understand how the systems work.

I appreciate all (well, most) offerings by the different manufacturers and give credit where it's due. I like my Fords, BUT, the small block Chevy engine is idiot proof, Chrysler made a huge hit with their mini-vans, Toyota will kiss butt 3 ways to Sunday to keep up the Toyota reputation, The (Mitsu) Laser was a darn good car in my experience, Volvo is all about small "hmm, neat idea" niceties and safety, I could keep going but you get the picture. (Honda just does things wierd. Work on one and you'll see what I mean. Good car though). Any car maker with a truly BAD product won't be a car maker for long. When was the last time you saw a new Yugo.:) You all keep feeding and caring for your Mutsubishis as I will my Lincolns. Just disregard the haters that pop in and dis your cars. Remember: Idiots will draw you in with stupidity, then overcome you with experience. (Paraphrased, I couldn't remember the exact quote). Most systems on all cars are easy to fix if you understand them - it is matter of how willing you are TO fix them. A saying among Mitsubishi owners goes something like "making better mechanics since 1980"

In my youth we used to say Chryslers had the best engines and ford had the best style, chevy's were a compromise. But of course that is also where the old FORD jokes started Found On Road Dead, or Fix Or Repair Daily.

My first ricer was an old Dodge Colt - Great Car.

Owned 2 Nissans- OK and very reliable except for the transmission in my 4x4.

My wife has had 2 Volvo's, nice driving and very comfortable - but a budget buster whenever they have to be worked on.

By far the best vehicle I have owned is a Toyota t100, I have beat this truck, drug trailers, only have done maintenance on a convenience basis, and the ONLY thing that has gone bad is a starter. !45,000 miles.
