no red spyder?

My wife was ready to buy a new 04 spyder and found out they don't offer it in red anymore. She insists on red. There is a maroon color but no bright red, as they had up through 2003 (they called it saranno red). Anybody know why they dropped it, and if it might be coming back for 05?

Just joined this group, perhaps I'm simple, or can't recognize a subtle troll, but it seems the original post was a reasonable question....please pardon my neubiness...? Red cars (in the northeastern USA anyway) cost more to insure ~ quite a bit more. Perhaps they were hard to sell as a result of this? Just a thought. DC3

The original posting was a reasonable question. It was the first response that was an idiot troll....

hank is sad that he's saddled with a p.o.s. with ZERO resale potential. now that the japanese holiday has concluded, the japanese government will be moving forward and making arrests of fuso and mitsu execs for criminal business practices. the end is near....

"Mitsubishi Motors is saddled with more than a trillion yen (US$10 billion) in debt, plunging car sales both in Japan and North America and a badly tarnished image over a defect cover-up scandal four years ago that was followed by a spate of recalls. It is forecasting a 72 billion yen ($661 million) loss for the fiscal year ended March 31, a reversal from a 37 billion yen profit the previous year. Police are investigating a suspected defect cover-up in the 2002 death of a housewife who was crushed by a wheel falling off a Mitsubishi truck. Speculation has been growing that arrests may be imminent. "

I think no one is disputing that previous generations of the eclipse would beat the 3G in terms of sportyness and handling. Yes, the resale value of the 3G drops like a rock. However, that doesn't make it a p.o.s. It has a lot going for it, it's a beautiful looking car, and it's definitely in the ballpark in terms of handling and performance compared to the best selling cars in the ~25k class, especially so when talking convertibles. Out of curiosity, what new convertible would you recommend in this price bracket?

You're clearly a very knowledgable guy when it comes to DSM/Mitsibushi, but your diplomacy skills could use a refresher. People are too buys being insulted to address what you're trying to say. Well, maybe you don't care, but if that's the case, why do you reply to those posts in the first place?

ps! I think maroon looks a lot better than the laser red. the latter only works on Italian performance cars and redneck-driven Mustangs.

no but may of the posts to this newgroup do point that way.

the 3G eclipse with it's top up is one of the ugliest creations.... the coupe is not so bad but the rag top is god awful ugly.

"Out of curiosity, what new convertible would you recommend in this price bracket? "

i universally detest convertables. i couldn't in good faith recommend one. alternatives to the eclipse coupe are many though. my wife is in a wrx. my sisters drive vr-6 gti and rsx/s respectively. all three are at the eclipse price point.

"You're clearly a very knowledgable guy when it comes to DSM/Mitsibushi, but your diplomacy skills could use a refresher."

uh i belivee the sci-fi geek started things. i mearly stated that the poster was lucky and to use this chance to find a decent car.

as i said, the reply to the original post was not an insult. with respect to hank, it is his hand on the tiller. it is unfortunate that he's found himself limited to typing out the sound a turd makes as it splashes into the bowl but we must play the cards we've been dealt.

redneck-driven mustangs?

are you an albino or something? :-) surely you could form an opinion on which new $25k-ish convertible that would the lesser evil?

Nice cars, I test drove all of them before I got a 3g convertible. wrx is a fun car -- cheesy, ugly as sin and a not the car for long (city) commutes, but cheap fun. the vw is a just another fwd golf, good chick car, i hope she got the 200hp vr6, the good thing about Vag is that they make pretty nice auto trannies (way better than the mitsubishi crap). rsx has no soul or personality, and I find the whole vtech concept extremely annoying, I want displacement or turbo (or both).

my personal pick in the eclipse price point would be a used car. yes, it's "cheating", but a 30k miles 2001 Audi S4 certified to 100k is hard to beat when you can take it home for not that much over $25k. In that I could live with not having a button to take the roof down.

" are you an albino or something? :-)"

no, but the first record i ever bought was a 45 by the edgar winter group. does that count?

"surely you could form an opinion on which new $25k-ish convertible that would the lesser evil?"

my mentor, the late pino morroni, once stated in a conversation about design how he could never exchange function and performance for aesthetics. it was a lesson that stuck because when i see a ragtop i see a car that has been damaged by designers and stylists. why compromise a car in so many ways when the % of use with the top down is comparatively small?

"wrx is a fun car -- cheesy, ugly as sin and a not the car for long (city)commutes, but cheap fun."

subaru surely does approach n/v/h in a different way...the car has a cheap, tinny feel to it but it does what it's supposed to do and rather well. i don't have any problems with it over extended distances though.

" i hope she got the 200hp vr6, the good thing about Vag is that they make pretty nice auto trannies."

yep she's got the 200 hp unit with a 6 speed manual tranny and 18" wheels. anyone who would pair a front drive with an auto tranny is lost.

"rsx has no soul or personality, and I find the whole vtech concept extremely annoying, I want displacement or turbo (or both). "

agreed but it probably is not going to have a catostrophic engine failure shortly out of warranty and leave you with a worthless hulk that you still owe thousands on.

"my personal pick in the eclipse price point would be a used car. "

again we agree. for the price of a 3G spyder, i built a giant killer.

Prolly due to the pigment failure on all bright red cars that causes them to turn pink when left in the sun, has done for years. Even on Ferraris. And its a pain in the arse to correct or cure by constant polishing.
