27.6mpg....

But when the 15mph variance is between 2 mph below the speed limit and

13mph above it, it shouldn't be getting in anyone's way anyway. Unless they are driving like a nobber.

Pity Audi don't make a proper hybrid yet, you would fit it perfectly.

Exactly, I maintaining a useable speed, but conserving fuel, and "everyone" seems to be getting very het up about this being a regular thing, when I did say the traffic was a lot lighter so I thought I would see if I could do it.

I drive according to the conditions, so if it was busy, I wouldn't dream of doing it if it might cause disruption.

I always assume their car has a serious lack of ooomph and can't get up the hills if I see that...

Seconded, and I don't even have cruise control.

No idea where Carl got the idea that this means I use the brakes on a motorway.

Having done a couple of hundred miles as a passenger in Carl's old LS / Celsior / Whatever it was, I wouldn't say that he drives like a 'nobber'. He even managed to get a sensibly speedy average down some A roads that his ol' barge of a Toymota was pretty unsuited for.

Driving like a 'nobber' in my view is doing 90 mph in lane 3 when everything else is doing 70-75 because of sheer weight of traffic, tailgating anyone who dares to move into lane 3 (even when they're only doing it to pass the obligatory truckers in L1 and L2), hot cup of JJ Beanos on the go, chatting away on the handsfree to Smith in sales about area coverage in the outer Newmarket region. Normally with the headlights on in broad daylight, cheap designer shades and a midrange suit jacket hanging up in the back.

Don't worry, they'll soon all be driving Prii.

Hehehe, what a coincidence.

Doesn't his company know that BMW 330s are more fuel efficient?

BMW M3s are more fuel efficient if driven in the right manor.

Wasn't it an M3 in that particular edition of Top Gear?

I didn't realise the people that ended up stuck in the outside or being annoyed were *speeding* !!!!lll!11!!!!

You should, when speeding at limit plus 13mph, report everyone that overtakes you to the Police. Afterall, they're being hugely dangerous doing

85mph on a well flowing motorway...

IMO it's fine to vary your speed a bit, especially if you don't have cruise, but 15mph varience takes the piss a bit heh. Still, never mind, your car, you're driving it, do what you want - I was never that considerate to other drivers either as I was very aggressive and seemed to have a very short fuse and big opinion of myself when driving - I'm really in no place to tell you off hehe! Mum was once reading some thing about stress whilst we were stuck in a Saturday afternoon Royal Ascot at York jam that had been made more exciting by an accident, and did the little test on me. Turned out something like if I was older (like, 50) I'd be having a heart attack heh - side stepped that landmine!

We always thought my attitude in the car was really odd because normally I'm incredibly chilled and laid back, except when watching programs like "Cowboy Builders" and "My kids are fat - how can I stop this and who is to blame?" where the incredible stupidity of the pov's on them makes me shout. Especially Cowboy builders, where people choose a builder, try nothing to find out if they're any good and get no references, then give them £15k cash, upfront...

Hot damn, you and Alan are right.

If you drive like you and I drive like I stole it, then it's hardly a surprise, really.

If I drove the M3 like I stole it and you drove the Prius like you, then the results would be hugely different.

In fact, your driving style is ideal for getting the best from a hybrid.

there's quite a steep hill near where i live and in the 328 you didn't have to change down, you only had to push the throttle down a little to keep the speed up. the peter snow style swing-ometer in the car hardly moved either really. the mini can do the same at 40-ish but if you're going below 40 then you may need a change down to 4th in the mini i normally sole the problem with a good run up and let the hill ease the speed back down lol

Aww look at you with your 'ickle olive branch [1] :-) Fair brings a tear to the eye!

[1] IIRC Steve is, or certainly used to be, a bit of a "big lump of lard" himself - I may be wrong these days though and he may have lost weight, especially since he's had a Wii. Perhaps he just has a huge bladder...[2] [2] I'm ashamed of that joke. Now I know how PeteAVM feels. Group hug Pete?
