28.1mpg.....

I think I need to be more gentle on the loud pedal in the 155.

It's not exactly as the maker intended, though, is it?

One would assume that wasn't on the public road, too.....

This is the first time I've got the 155 to dip under 30mpg on my commute to work.

Pah, best i've seen in me 19 is 27mpg. To be fair most of the petrol goes towards the flames tho...

400 miles 44 litres of petrol mostly motorway mind, but a few hours of town and traffic (stuck behind the lorry) to add to the mix in there as well did almost 700 miles to a tank the other week though (tank is aprox 60 litres and the light had JUST come on)

Lucky git. I've averaged ~25mpg. Just filled it up with optimax and have a 2 hour drive to Eastbourne, so will be interesting to see how it fairs.

Bigtone posting on the SXOC has this for his sig.

On my way to single figure MPG (I think I'm there)

What you get for running 400bhp.

Same as I get out of the bog-standard Jag, a bit better than the XJR, but not much. Hmmm, not much advantage to ahving one of these small cars is there? Slower, more cramped and uses more fuel.

If I had a V6 I'd drive it the same way, but burn 50% more fuel doing so, and be going 25% faster ;-)

Besides, a 155 is hardly 'small', is it?

compared to a jag it is, half the engine too :)

Oh yes it is. It's just the modern tendency to see small cars as large ones.

197 miles. 29.5 to the gallon. About average for a weeks commuting. Why I need a cheaper car to run.

I think you can take the Alfas off the list, then ;-)

and if you ever considered a Sierra XR4x4, forget it.. a V6 Alfa is dreamland fuel consumption compared to the ol' 2.8 V6... but then again, I think I need to adjust the valve clearances (again)

Shoot man!

My weekly commute is now 300 miles, but it's usually 315 or 320 by the time I hit Friday night, 'cos or errands and suchlike. The Ka is now averaging

45 mpg over the commute...

500 plus miles / week..... I just break even on expenses if I turn in 35mpg. Think I'll take it a little easier rather than seeing every other car on the road as a target I _must_ overtake.

Yep, the Old Skodas used to do that too, the Favorit was was better on fuel than the Estelle (and more comfortable in a boring kind of way), but the Estelle was so much more fun to drive.

I guess that what you get driving a 2 tonne bus with a 2 litre turbo engine. Thats why I'm considering the Prelude, the 155 and the 9000 Aero.

The 9000 Aero, even though it has more power, bigger engine and more aggressive ecu map (much more torque and HP) is a lighter smaller car, with much higher gearing, so where you would be looking at 3rd in most cars, you are looking at 2nd in the Aero (even on tight race tracks like Angelsey te instructors couldn't believe how much higher the stock 9k Aero was over other 9ks) and on a reasonable run you average 40 where as a 9000 LPT (either 2.0 or 2.3) tends to average arround 30-35.

I expect with the kind of driving I do, a 155 TS wouldn't dip quite as low as Steve was getting, and a 75 would do much better, and the prelude would consistently give mid 30's easily.

but it is all down to price in the end. Alfa 155/164 8v TS £mid to high hundreds. Prelude Gen 4 VTEC £1.5k-4k depending on how it has been looked after whether UK spec or jap. Saab 9000 Aero £2k-7k depending on age and mileage.

In the Aero you get 4 Recaro designed perches, and only in leather with all the elctrics and can still move house in it. I think Alfa used Recaro for some models but cloth in the 155/164 AFAIK but with a decent sized boot. The Prelude used recarro designed front seats, but recarro "Inspired" rear seats. Leather was only an option in later cars, or half leather in the Jap ones, and the prelude can just about manage a weeks shopping.

I don't ever remember getting less than 300 miles from a tank in my XR4x4, however I also don't remember how big the tank was. Cruising was>400 miles, general use over 300.

My Volvo (65 litres) can drop below 280miles/tank, or hit 450 or more.
