Nice. . Out of curiosity, since when did a 'proper' Ford come standard with a Rover V8?

I like that, lots. I just wish he'd painted under the bonnet as well.

Seems a shame to do a lovely job and then not bother finishing it.

What's the deal with the Rover V8 in everything over there? Haven't you guys heard of small block chevs?

Cheap, easy to find, reliable, compact, weigh nothing.

That's why they're better than a small block Yank V8.

For Rover think Buick, they bought a design. As Steve said, Light, compact, and everywhere. Loads of smaller companies, as well as Rover used them in their cars. No car made in the UK used a Chev V8, although there have been a few that used Chrysler V8s.

Small light and everywhere sounds like the small block chev. Most produced engine ever. Over a million units. You can also get decent power out of the chev without too much trouble. And every performance part under the sun is available for it off the shelf. Must be a regional thing.

No manufacturer used them here, and very few american cars made it over the pond (in proportion), so there isn't even the scrapyard element for kit builders/modifyers.

If you need a good small block chevy, you ideally need to import it yourself or find an engine builder and gt them to do it for you. And importing a crate engine ain't that cheap. if you want a Rover V8, go to the scrappy. look for a P5, a P5, an SD1 or a Rangerover, Some LDV vans, a few TVRs, I think a Marcos or two, some scrapped ambulances, several ex-police Sherpa vans, and the list goes on.

Thing about the Rover lump is its all aluminium, and can be taken out to 5+ litre with not much work. Not as easy to get huge poke from the Rover as the Chevy, but the handling advantages of a light lump are better than having an extra 50 unusable bhp

You can get alloy chev motors but they aren't cheap. Friend had one in his Torana. He nicked it from his dads sprintcar. Then stuck a 200hp nitrous shot on it. Ran 10s over the 1/4 before he stacked it being stupid.

They weigh around the same as a Pinto. Not exactly the feat it might sound as the Pinto weighs roughly half a metric shitload...

It has got twice the cylinders, with twice the valves, twice the cams and twice the con rods. etc. So in comparison, it's light.

Shame it's got a Rover lump in.

Rover V8 weighs less than the Pinto it replaces. Oh, and it doesn't need to be 5.7 litres to be able to produce the same power as a 1l Mini.
