Well, the Sierra went just now, the MX5 is getting picked up tomorrow, and the MX5 hardtop should be sold by this time tomorrow.
And I've found the Volvo I want and should be getting it sometime in the next 6 weeks. Already got some vented calipers on the way, so just need to work out what discs will fit and I'll be laughing :)
That's more like it.... I was curious as to why you called them 'vented calipers', though, as the calipers don't care if the discs are vented or solid, so long as they're the correct width.
Looks like I spoke to soon. The calipers were seized on the the bloke broke one trying to get it off :( But he is gonna send me 2 sets of new pads FOC as an apology.
So the hunt is back on. If anyone knows of a Volvo 440/460/480 with vented front brakes in a scrapyard near them, let me know and I will send you beer tokens to go get the calipers for me :)
A 360 GLT. The brake upgrade will involve changing the front calipers to those from a 400 vented setup and using Vauxhall Carlton vented discs. They'll also be a bit of air ducting for the front and rears, and also hopefully changing to some alloys from a 400 which are a bit more open so will hopefully help air flow. With any luck that'll stop the brake problems I had on the last one reoccuring.
Well the 360 is a bit different as the gearbox is at the back. I think it involves removing the gearbox and sliding the whole thing back to get at the clutch housing. Not hugely difficult, but certainly not as easy as it could be!
it's got the backend box :) the bellhousing is tiny and when I removed one WAY WAY back in 1993 it was very easy, only a few bolts and it came out :) just make sure it hasn't got them train track and runs on rubber bands
You are thinking of the 1.4 litre "340"'s mit the Variomatic transmission.
Cos there is no room in the 300 bodyshell (at the front) for a conventional bellhousing &gerbox, the manual 340 1.7 litres & all the the 360's have a normal Volvo 5-speed box built into a transaxle casting & fitted under the rear seat, which is higher than normal to allow space for the origianl Variomatic set-up. The other difference between the 340 & 360 is that the 340 propshaft is open, with UJ's at each end, & has the gearshift mounted onto the bodywork, whereas the 360 has a "torque-tube" connecting the engine & transmission with the rigid prop-shaft inside said tube. The gear-shift is mounted directly onto the torque-tube &, IMVHO, give a much improved / positive shift. Aslo means that the whole engine, torque-tube & transaxle are bolted together forming a very ridid unit & suspended front & rear on just 4 rubber mounts.
All makes for a very stodgy-looking saloon / hatchback, but witn a low C-of-G & 50/50 weigt distribution which handles far better than it's looks might indicate.
Mit a bigger / turbo motor, it couild be a very respectable "Q" car.......
Cheers, DC, Ex owner of a new 360 back in '86/'87, & a DAF 55 Marathon in '75.....
..which would acheive nothing over the standard 2.0i lump, not the mention the drivetrain disintegrating the first time you put your foot down. If I wanted turbo power it would be a 2.3i 8v red block from another volvo
