Coolness on the 'bay

Which are the kind of cars which really shouldn't be 'modded'.

As if that's some kind of problem when you live in a country were roads have bends.

or that I'm going to keep the E30 as an auto when it's got the V8, just because I can (or at least I hope I can, I appear to be the first to try it...)

Is that going to bolt onto the original 3-series box? - or are you going to have to go through the pain of getting a 5-series ECU to talk to a

3-series?

ECU? Not needed...

But the 5-series auto box will be ECU controlled - which is why I'm interested in which box is being used.

I know the one. Wasn't it a cosworth tuned merc V6 engine in that one?

It was a Metro 6R4 engine to start with, then an Opel touring car engine, and now I believe it's a Cossie 2.9 24v lump. An amazing car!!!

Might end up like a bit of a Unicorn, or V8 Nova. (c:

I suspect that there's enough different about the cars to make it pretty tricky.

ISTR the 309 has a funny number in the Peugeot scale because its actually a Talbot project. It came chronologically after the 305 but also after the 306 had been started.

Anyway, the platform the 405 is based on was always going to have a 4x4 option and AFAIK, the 309 wasn't.

I like the idea though, and if it can be done, the finished car would be a lot of fun with Mi16 Power.

My thought is that I'll be using a chipped E34 540 engine ECU (pretty much plug'n'pray on BMWs as the engine / gearbox to ECU loom is simple and self contained ) and the E34 ECU shouldn't have any problems talking to its own gearbox. The 3 already has all the speed sensors etc built in as on the E30 the speedo is driven from the diff, it's got ABS, it's already auto and all the signals go to the brain loom at some point anyway.

I'm going to see a chap about a Z3M steering rack over the weekend, one of the lads on E30Zone sells the pipework to plumb it in and it's quicker than an E30 M3 rack so that'll be an interesting little mod.

Should be fun as I'm going to keep the car looking slightly ratty, keep the BBS and the ride height as close to standard as I can get it without being obvious. A mate has volunteered to make the exhaust manifolds and a quietish system for it, so hopefully it'll be a 310ish bhp, standard looking old touring. The auto box will keep it nice and relaxed in town, but it'll be a proper handful at a trackday.

You are of course right, and you shouldn't be modding classics like Alfas and Saabs or mk1 and 2 escorts, or executive cars like BMWs or old mans cars like Volvos.

Guess that just leaves Saxos and Corsas and astras and fiestas and such. Yeah, you are right much more suitable for modding.
