Corrado G60 Supercharger.

I have an associate with a Corrado G60. Said Corrado now has a rather impressive hole in the side of the supercharger casing.

I don't know all the details about how it happened but he's apparently been quoted £700 for a new one from VW.

So: Is £700 reasonable? I found a recon one on ebay for £695 'buy it now', but I'm sceptical of ebay's bargain credentials and not sure that ebay was a good place to start.

Where would a man get something like a supercharger? New or reconditioned.

Who makes the one on the G60? I see lots and lots of Eaton ones on ebay for less than a couple of hundred. Presumably this is because they all upgrade their MINI Cooper Ss to loony spec. Not sure one of those would bolt straight on sadly.

I would imagine that an ex Mini blowwer would be anything but a straightforward bolt on.

Still very tempting though.

The G-Lader superchargers where a VW only creation. It may be possible=20 to fit another brand with some bracketry, and changes to the pulley.

=A3700 for a new one is excellent. For turbo chargers, you generally=20 looking at =A34-600 depending on the original model, for a rebuilt (but=20 not necessarily uprated one, with the old one going back in exchange, or=20 saying a couple of hundred pound surcharge.

Google for G-Lader repair/rebuild.

A lot of the well known VW tuners like Jabbasport and Awesome GTi will=20 know of someone who can rebuild the,

To up the boost on a supercharger, generally, just change the pulley sizes to change the gearing and the rate it spins.

If it was a Polo G40, you could stick on a G60 froma Golf or Corrado. Don't know if VW officially made any bigger G series superchargers.

Looks like someone hasn't had a full service on the charger and a scroll seal let go.

Very, they were twice that last I heard.

The only people to speek to are pitstop developments.

VW were the only people to make them

The mini one is completely different (having both G40 and cooper S chargers sitting round), that said pitstop are working on fitting a Mini charger to the G40.

Reason they let go like your mates is just its been pushed past its service life, which is about 80k miles. Less if its got a smaller pulley than standard.

The vanes wear, as they are in contact with the casing during the life of the unit. When they become well worn there is a danger they can pop out of the grooves in the rotor as it turns to the point where it meshes with the other rotor. As the rotor continues to turn towards the casing with the vane popped out obviously when it meets the casing something has to give. Either the vane breaks off and the engine injests it (not good) or the casing cracks, then the engine injests the bits (also not good) Either renders the G-lader scrap.

700 for a new one from anywhere is cheap as chips, VAG price was 1250+vat last time i looked.
