Dodgy steering question

Evening slags

My sisters 205 has landed on my drive as I'm suppose to be getting rid of it for her. There's something wrong with the steering but I've never experienced it before - I assume it's just a knackered rack but wondered it anyone could throw any input my way. Basically the steering seems quite stiff and when you corner the wheel doesnt want to self correct itself. And it's more noticeable when turning right. But I drove it the 25 miles back to my place without incident.

I've got a chap asking me about it and I've told him I suspect the rack is knackered. But I'm not gonna have a chance to look at it until the weekend, so if anyone has any more ideas (or specifically what could have broken) let me know.

Oh, and does anyone want a 1991 205 1.4 GR? ;)

It's usually a seized strut top bearing - you're trying to "unwind" the spring when turning right which takes more effort than winding it tighter. Do you get a clunk as you put it in full right lock? A seized lower balljoint/trackrod end is another possibility.

I'd check any flexible coupling or UJ in the column first.

That could be a possibility actually. She worked up a gravel track and the underneath is caked in crap. Will check it out at the weekend, along with the UJ joint on the steering column as Tony suggested. Maybe a powerwash will fix everything :)

Ta fellas
