What's the right sort of money for this? Around £6.5K?

Am I right in thinking that model is pretty much the top MK2 MX5 you can lay your hands on?

I'd say so. A less shiny one might be had for £5.5k

Depends whether you want the Bilsten dampers/bigger brakes or some sort of special edition cache but yes, it has the most factory go-faster kit.

Bigger brakes = more expensive and slightly less easy to source IME.

LSD, strut braces and 6 Speed can all be had on lesser models.

Look for any signs of bubbling/rust on the rear wheelarches and the front wings/front end of sills.

I think so. I feel it's expensive but I'm not really that clued up on Mk2 prices. Keep in mind it's got a hardtop with stand that is worth an easy 400 quid on its own. For that sort of money I'd expect it to be immaculate and start haggling very close to 6k. I think it's mostly the age and mileage he's trying to get more money for; IIRC the supercharged Mk2 that the PO of my last MX5 bought wasn't much more expensive.

It's not a bargain, that's for sure.

That's pretty much my feeling and what Glass' and Parkers are saying.

Is mileage a big thing for MX5 prices? My mum's after one, and getting very hung up on the idea that they need to be super low mileage (to the point of looking at ones that have done 2k a year). I suspect that kind of use could bring more trouble than the benefit of low miles when it comes to selling time.

I didn't think it was a bargain either, but it does look tidy. I'm trying to steer my Mum away from bargain hunting as that usually means me travelling with her the length and breadth of the country to look at a nail...

What do Glass' and Parkers suggest as a mileage-adjust price? Just out of curiosity, like?

For some people and/or some special editions it is if it is very low mileage. I'm not a big fan of low mileage cars & I'm currently paying the penalty again with the 911...

I'd agree, especially in these days of long service intervals and people servicing cars by miles and forgetting about the "or once a year" part.

I'd have a look at the classified section on mx5nutz - the unmodified cars there are usually pretty well described and the folks there tend to be quite clued up when it comes to prices.

It's not cheap, but it looks nice.

Depends, do you want to pay retail prices and a mega-nice example, or private prices and spend a bit more time looking for an equally nice one for a grand less. They are out there, but they'll be scarce while the sun is out.
