For Sale - R5 GT Turbo Raider.

:o) how do you think i ended up with 5 cars?

i'm forever buying cars that "will be mint if i do this".

money pits. all of them

much much much better off buying as decent car to start with and then "making it your own" plus any money you then spend modding the car imporves it, or at least makes it to your taste. rather than spending mney on making it work

Yes, but you're working on stuff that's actually worth proper cash - a MkII Golf is worth £1k at best.

Still not worth it. Buy a good one to start with. Especially when dealing with bodywork.

Good to see I'm not the only one.

:o) it's a mental illness i'm sure :o)

i'm just good at seeing the potential in cars.

Its not about how much its worth to some one else, its about how much its worth to me. Once I am finished with this golf I won't sell it, i'll keep it incase somthing happens to my next car or I just want a change. Of course I might part exchange or sell it, if something really catchs my eye or there is a cash flow problem.

In your opinion, but what I do in my spare time is up to me. Even if it is a waste of time, its better than sitting on my arse! (like I have the last cpl of days with this shitty cold) And proper mechanicing keeps you fit and you need to be to lie on cold concerete in an unheated shed!

Plus you have that lovely feeling of before and after, nothing quite like it.

If you're going to do it, at least pick something worth doing it to.

You'd be better off looking for a dog-eared Escort MkI / MkII or Triumph Dolly for a few hundred quid and put the efforts into that.

:o) anyway.....my cars for sale.

Not worth it - all (or at least most) insurance companies will have access to the DVLA database that will bring up specific model details from the reg number, so they'll know what it is.

Yeah but I don't want an escort mk 1/ mk2 or a triumph dolly for that matter :)

I want a 3 door mk 2 golf with deep dish alloys and some euro styleing that I can afford to use day to day. Or a BMW 325i or 318is but they are a bit too expensive atm to insure.

Oh yeah, well, my bro came home with his girl friend on Friday so I've been hanging out with them for a bit today and completely forgot to ring any insurance companies >_<

They're a better prospect as a restoration project, plus they'll teach you how to drive a _proper_ car. One that has the correct wheels driven.

If you're set on doing this with a Golf, at least you could start with a MkI, ffs!

mrk 1's don't look as nice imo, if it turns out shit you can do an "i told you so" but if it doesnt i'll be smileing ear to ear with a car that I built and that I wanted.

Anywayz, what do you have atm, and what projects have you undertaken in the history of StevenH's driving license :)

Believe me, once you've finished it, you'd wish you'd done it to the MkI instead. Especially once you see how much people are willing to pay for a 'euro style' MkI.

What I have at the moment are listed below.....

Pics are here:

The Cabrio is an ongoing (and on.... and on.... and on....) project. I've given it a new roof, fixed a load of electrical issues, started to sort the interior, replaced most of the ignition system.

Previously I had a Fiat 124 Spider 'project' that never really happened bar a bit of retrimming of the interior panels and sorting electrical hassles.

That one would have financially ruined me if I'd have finished it.

It all started with this:

Which just got the usual 'kev' accessories, really.

You didn't fill a hot engine with cold water by any chance??

As for the temperature reading ... if its anything like bmw's the normal running reading at 82 degrees is at 50% ... the bottom of the red starts at 90% which equates to the boiling point of antifreeze under 15 psi of pressure (135 degrees). Thats 50 degrees span between normal and boilup.

Yep, if it was free, he would want paying to take it away, as it can't be any good.

My project has cost over 500 quid so far just in terms of the weekly tenenr rental on the council lockup it's in :(

Reading your post me me realise that. Bugger.

No money in Dollies, unless you pick up a basketcase of a Sprint, and turn out a concours car the other end.

Locally I can get a Dolly 1300 for 50 quid, an 1850 auto for 60 quid. Both are very good starting points to turn into good (but not show condition) every day cars. So far as I know, I'm the only person who's at all interested in either, and I don't have the space as I've got my free 1500 in a garage, and my 25 quid 1500 on some local land. As well as my free 1300 in everday use.

AFAIK mk1 Escorts are worth a few quid, but I hardly ever see one going cheap to put back together around here.
