Ah, the old, i've lost the argument, i better resort to immature insults technique.

If you do insist on heading down this route, at least think of something vaguely original or amusing, then at least some of us may get a laugh out of your pathetic drivvle :)

That isn't answering my question, and if you believe that, you really are stupid.

Didn't say i beleived it, said i was told it. VTEC's don't suffer any ill effects from being ragged every day, so theres most of a manufacturers range for you. Top Gear on sunday in fact commented that Honda had never known a VTEC system failure.

And Golfs DO get better with age. I did answer you question, as you said name one, i am confident there is an old Golf GTi out there, thats been thrashed hard, and hasn't had any problems (obviously save for consumables).

Dan405 made the world a better place for us by saying..

yup, there's one on my path, 397000 KM, (that's about 246000 miles for the muppet that thinks RS Turdos are good), still quick, still reliable, still economical, still handles, and still looks / drives / smells / handles / corners better than 99.999999% of RS Turbos.

And it doesn't need new valve stem oil seals, piston rings, or the inner wings welding up either.

Lol.

And your last two cars have been such beauties as the MkIV and MkV Escorts......

At least my cars look different to the norm.

Well, your RST and Escort TD were MkIV and V respectively.

So, care to enlighten us as to what you've had since?

WOW! Is it for sale?? Surely something like that would be worth in excess of, ooohh, £350 ;)

But is it fame or infamy?

The only individuals who think that the RS Turbo is "beautiful" have either been battered with the stupidity stick, or have driven and appreciated chuff all else.

It's a low tech Escort diesel, that's not economical.

The Merc I recently returned.

Had it since new, 60k on the clock when it went back and I personally put more than 99% of those miles on it. When it was new, it wouldn't pull 70 in top on an uphill stretch of Motorway that I use every day in life. By the end of the 3 year lease it would pull 85mph up the same bit of motrway. Economy was also better.

I can get even more obsessive than that. My current Passat now has 3500 miles on the clock It is currently doing 0.3 miles to the gallon more than it was when new. This is the average figure. It was previously 39.3 - it's now 39.6. Yes too much detail, but as much real world proof as you will get that cars improve with age. The golf example is well known and absolutely true as well.

Bob Sherunckle made the world a better place for us by saying..

I've just been out to Wales in the 540i.. out to Mold, across to Denbigh, over the moors [1], to Betws-y-coed, Llanberis, Bangor, then back along the A55. 195 miles all in, £20 worth of juice. According to the trip computer,

28.8 mpg, and an average speed of 62 mph. I know it's hardly on topic [5], but I thought getting nearly 29 mpg out of a 4.4 V8 Auto including a damn good thrashing across some of the best driving roads in the country is worth shouting about.[2] [1] Lunar eclipse, so wanted to avoid light pollution [2] Might need a new pair of rear tyres now though. [3] [3] 330lb ft, heavy right foot & great roads vs 245/45/17's. [4] Was on 33mpg till the moors, dropped *significantly* came back up on way back [5] it's done 75000 miles, does that make it more 'on' topic?
