FS: Audi A6 2.5TDi SE 140bhp Avant, damaged

Serious potential buyers please e-mail me for details, it was in excellent pre-accident condition (not perfect, but still what I would call superb condition for its age), and has been very well looked after, and has also had a new cambelt and all tensioners done within the last 10,000 miles by a reputable VAG specialist at a cost of around £480.

It's currently on a private plate, but was an N reg (Jan 1996), and features

4x, electric windows, electric heated mirrors, digital climate control. It has a removable front single-disc CD player (Sony), and a Nokia 5/6/7 series hands-free kit (currently not emitting sound from the speaker but I'm sure this is a slightly loose connection). It has the 'sports' seats, and the alloys were replaced with the 5-spoke alloys (same as an early A6 Quattro - standard Audi wheels), all with good Pirelli P6000 tyres. It also features the 6-speed gearbox. Basically all that's stopping this from being the "ultimate spec" A6 Avant is the fact that it doesn't have leather seats, cruise control, or quattro (and I drove a quattro model of the same car, and it felt a bit slow compared to mine IMHO).

Service history wise, it's been very well looked after all its life - in short, main dealer stamps up to 40k in the book, then a notebook kept by the previous keeper, with everything done regularly, oil changes ever 6k at a minimum), and I have maintained it to similar standards myself.

Damage is reasonably heavy to the front of the roof and windscreen, and the bonnet is also damaged. I don't believe there to be any major structural damage to the front panel, though a few plastic bits from the bumper are missing and the bumper would ideally want spraying, and the O/S/F headlight and indicator will need replacing.

Mechanically it's pretty much A1, bar a few small minor issues, all of which I have the parts to rectify, and would take no more than an hour or two absolute tops to sort them out (quite possibly all doable within half an hour).

It pains me to see it go, but I'm no longer allowed to drive it, and it makes no sense in keeping it. I spent a lot of time looking for one in as good condition as this - one weekend I drove a 400 mile round trip to look at 3 A6s of this model in different corners of the country, and they were all extremely tatty, hence why I jumped at the chance to buy this one.

This is a very rare model, and when they do turn up they're still at the £4.5-5k mark (even high milers are asking that), so even given the repair costs (which I'd estimate to be around £1500 at a reputable small independent garage) this is a good deal, because of its overall condition (pre-accident) - obviously if someone was to buy this to repair themselves and keep, it would be an even better deal.

Sensible offers around £2200.

What the f*ck happened to it, to get damaged there?

Hmm... sounds like a potential reshell jobby to me...

Long story. Don't really want to go into it on here, drop me a line on email if you like.

I'd be 99% confident it'd be entirely possible to replace the roof panel, though the damage doesn't extent *that* far back, and it *could* potentially be re-shaped.

Hi peter,

I would make a serious offer of £100 at the most to take it away as scrap. I can guarantee you will only get similar offers if you phone around. It doesn't matter what perfect condition or second hand cars are worth, yours sounds like an insurance right off so isn't worth anywhere near what you are expecting. The same goes for service history, people don't look at that, or how often you washed it, they look at how bad the damage is and what the engineers report you have states. You should have a copy of that from the insurance company if you're the registered keeper and the vehicle is registered in your name and is yours to sell with allt he correct documents. It might be better if you break it up and sell the parts, you might get a bit more assuming there is a market for them.

In news:_9W0e.162$ snipped-for-privacy@newsfe6-win.ntli.net, Fred decided to enlighten our sheltered souls with a rant as follows

[snip]

Ah, as it'd fetch nearer £1500 in a salvage auction, I seriously suspect that you've ignored Peters' "Sensible offers" bit.

Pete paid near £6k for this Audi, and it's an easy repair. It's just got some less than pleasant associations for the poor chap.

This is true for a lot of cars, but when it's something a bit sought after like mine, these things make a difference. I reckon that if I was to have it repaired, I could *easily* sell it for £3.5k, which is a good grand or so cheaper than similar models to this fetch - that's due to it previously having been accident repaired, which if done properly, won't affect the car at all.

Exactly how does me being the registered keeper with the vehicle being registered in my name with all the correct documents imply that I would have an engineer's report from the insurance company? I don't have one because I was only insured TPFT, end of story.

You clearly don't appreciate that this is probably the most sought after model in the range, and yes, the spares would be worth a fair bit, but it's not worth breaking up, because as bad as the damage may sound, like PeteM mentioned, it's actually quite an easy repair.

There you go people, Pete knows what he's on about. Fred either doesn't, or is taking the piss. The damage looks worse than it is, and wouldn't be too difficult for any competent bodyshop to put right. It's the combination of unpleasant associations and not being able to drive any more that means I need to sell it, which I'm gutted about.

If you want to shove it in the Salvage auction down near here, I can help out with getting it there etc.

Anything like that seems to fetch big money, down there.

Heh, nothing a bit of time, filler and a windscreen wouldn't cure

Webastos, on the other hand, are the work of the devil.

What's a Webasto?

I have a perversion for Webastos.

I'm almost tempted to flog the Golf for spares and buy an Alfa Sprint then fit a Webasto to it..... for extra rusting opportunities ;-)

Sounds like a vandalism job to me, rather than an accident.
