FS: VW Golf 1.9 TDI SE Estate

Yes, I've only had it five minutes but as posted elsewhere, I've managed to get all the bits sorted to repair the Passat and so this will be surplus to requirements in a couple of weeks or so.

Details as follows:

2000 W reg Golf 1.9 TDI SE Estate in silver.

90 bhp non-PD lump - mega economical, as in I get about 65mpg on local plod along A and B road journeys (that's a real 65mpg, not the 70+mpg related by the fuel computer).

Fast motorway work is returning between 45 to 50mpg - I'll requalify this later on as I have to go all the way up to Birmingham and back in it later on today.

I've just had the pump timing checked and it was found to be slightly out, so that is now spot on.

140k from new, but having used it for a few weeks and also had a look right over it, as in up on a ramp, has obviously had a fairly easy, well pampered and cared for life.

Loads of service history, including a new cambelt kit and water pump 4k ago, new glow plugs and exhaust downpipe / cat a month or so ago, and a new air flow meter a couple of weeks ago.

Rad and both fans have obviously been changed in the last few months as well.

Usual SE refinements, as in VW Gamma RDS cassette headunit with single disc CD player, fuel computer, air con, electric windows all round, electric windows, 12v power socket in the boot, and remote central locking and alarm.

The only faults I can find with it are as follows:

The rear washer jet doesn't work - you can hear the pump working but nothing is appearing on the rear screen. If it's like my last Mk4 estate it'll be the feed pipe has come off the back of the washer jet itself, and I'll try to get round to looking at this before it goes.

The drivers door isn't sensing when it's been opened, meaning if you don't put the key in the ignition and start the car within so many seconds of operating the central locking to get in, the car relocks itself. Not a problem as such, but could potentially be one if you leave the keys in the car and then get back out again.

Whatever, I've found a guide on what is likely to be up, and it's either a faulty microswitch or some dry solder joints in the door lock mech, so an easy, documented by way of a guide fix or replacement if you decided to get a whole door lock mech instead... or you could just live with it, like I have. :-)

I've also fitted a set of really clean 15" GT TDI five spoke alloys recently, and they've really set the car off well.

Taxed til the end of January, and MOT'ed til then as well but I'll get another years MOT on it before it goes.

All in all a very tidy practical car which in some ways I prefer to the Passat, but that has done a lot less miles, is a lot quicker and... well, I'm quite attached to it really, so would rather fix that and keep it, much as I know within a few weeks of using it again I'll be muttering about 'such a poxy small opening for such a big boot'. ;-)

The Golf is going to be advertised elsewhere for £2195... yes, I know I paid a lot less for it, but I've done a fair bit of work to it and it'll have a full MOT and the alloys when it goes, but regardless, I'd take £1800 for it from a UKRCM regular.

Pics will be available in due course. :-)

The only other consideration is I've just put the paperwork into DVLA for a private plate to be transferred onto it, so this will have to be transferred back off it onto the Passat once this is back on the road and has gone through its VIC check... a snip at £80 a time. Doh.
