fuel pumps, multi-point injection and a broken Peugeot 305 (again)

Alright guys, I'm wondering if anyone can help...

I'm still trying to get this Peugeot 305 working.. if anyone remembers it ran out of fuel after being sat for five months or so and then refused to start after filling the tank up. I changed the injectors, no difference. Now, it looks like all I'm getting up at the injectors is mainly air and a small amount of petrol. I tried pouring fuel back down the pipe connecting to the fuel rail - lot of air bubbles came out, eventually no more fuel would go in, I put the pipe back on, car ran for ~30 seconds, stalled, fired on three, stalled again, refused to start. Repeated excercise a day or so later after checking everything else, the same thing happens. So, it looks like it uses up whatever fuel I put in between the fuel pump and the fuel rail, but it just gets replaced with air. I have a fair amount of fuel in the tank, I'd guess around 15-20 litres now. All I know is that eventually whatever fuel I have in the fuel rail slowly gets replaced with air held under pressure. So, the system is pressurising. I can't hear any signs of an air leak - could it be I just have a massive airlock somewhere and if I keep repeating the process of filling the various pipes with fuel, eventually I'll get it cleared?

Cheers for any help,

Chris.

No.

Either the suction line to the pump is split or drawing air somewhere, or the pickup gauze in the bottom of the tank is clogged, or the pump is bollox'd. A fairly simple repair whichever is the case.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the reply. I've been going round in circles this past week, getting the car started, having it stall, thinking 'maybe the plugs a fouled up', cleaning them, checking for a spark, checking for fuel (not realising it was slowly being replaced with air), recharging the battery, finding I had no fuel again, etc, etc, etc...

I'll check for a leak on the intake side of the pipe - but would I expect to see fuel leaking out if there was a problem in the pipe? Other than that, I'll look out for a fuel pump going cheap. This car really isn't worth spending vast sums of money on, but I want to get it moving again!
