A lot better than the equivalent petrol version. Mountune are also building one in a Lola chassis based on a VW V10, they expect to pit every 17 laps instead of every 10 or 11 the petrol version would have to.

There was one running at this years using a V10 taken directly from the 4x4 but it broke both the racing gearboxes.

That's a bigger difference than I would have expected. If you're producing
650 bhp you need to burn fuel to that equivalent. Okay so diesel has a greater calorific (sic?) value than petrol but it also weighs more, so it may be heavier for a given volume of fuel.- Vote on answer

I think the engine is all aluminium which would help.

Really? Maybe I missed all the advertising that would go with that, but that's new to me. Mind you, it proves my point about diesel and endurance racing.
