Scary, pity it doesn't show the mpg figures, heh!

A lot better than the equivalent petrol version. Mountune are also building one in a Lola chassis based on a VW V10, they expect to pit every 17 laps instead of every 10 or 11 the petrol version would have to.

There was one running at this years using a V10 taken directly from the 4x4 but it broke both the racing gearboxes.

That's a bigger difference than I would have expected. If you're producing

650 bhp you need to burn fuel to that equivalent. Okay so diesel has a greater calorific (sic?) value than petrol but it also weighs more, so it may be heavier for a given volume of fuel.

I think the engine is all aluminium which would help.

An interesting article. Maybe diesel is the way to go for endurance racing? Makes sense to me.

And BMW won the Spa 24 hours touring car race with a diesel some years ago.

Really? Maybe I missed all the advertising that would go with that, but that's new to me. Mind you, it proves my point about diesel and endurance racing.
