Golf oddness

My golf (MK2 digifant GTi if you're in the dark) is behaving slightly oddly. There's an intermittent ticking from the engine, and today at 45mph in fifth the oil lamp came on, which was rather worrying as it should have had plenty of oil in it. Pulled over, checked the oil, and there was plenty of oil in it. Now, do I have a buggered pressure sender, and an intermittent ticking noise, is the 10w40 oil a bit too thin, or is the oil pump about to lunch itself?

I'd guess the ticking is a depressurised tappet, and the oil pump is flaking out. Were you driving with due enthusiasm on some twisties? My Scirocco drew air into the oil pump with suitably upsetting results...

I had been driving fairly quickly, but not chucking it about much as it's a straightish road. The ticking comes and goes with no apparent pattern.

Check your dipstick has been pushed in all the way properly or even if its loose possibly. Came across this before and it caused me all sorts of oil buzzer and tappets probs. More than likey due to drawing in air and also the oil will spit out. Have a look on underside of ur bonnet for oil stains. Tappets in them mrk2's are common for the ticking now and then. I usually done an oil change and changed the oil filter, or even topped up the oil if it needed it can sort it. Make sure u dont use low grade cheap oil because its crap on them engines! Oil change usually sorts it tho. I doubt very much the pump is faulty aswell. If it was first thing u here is groaning similar to a slipping fan belt only slightly diffirent along with some gurgling sounds. Try the oil route first m8.

Yes, Doki. You should always take advice about pushing your dipstick all the way in from an Essex girl ;)
