Different car to the RX-7.. my old Pug 305. The injectors refuse to inject. I think they are severely blocked after the car's been sitting with virtually no fuel for several months... finally the fuel ran out one time I started it and I haven't been able to start it since (yes I did put more fuel in afterwards!). What's the best way to clean em?
In news:iLl8d.209523$ snipped-for-privacy@fe2.news.blueyonder.co.uk, Chris B decided to enlighten our sheltered souls with a rant as follows
Dunno, but I tow started a 205 GTi which had been standing for around five years about a month ago. Needed a couple of gallons of fresh fuel in it and a few connectors cleaning, but it ran sweet as a nut. I suspect your 305 might do the same.
You can get them ultrasonically cleaned (places that normally do it are diesel specialists). They can test them for a small fee first, for operation, damage, spray pattern etc, incase they are totally fecked rather than just dirty, saving you the cost, just paying for the test which is cheaper.
Ooh, sounds exactly like what I could do with for my Audi. I mean, the economy isn't aboslutely terrible, but I still reckon it's about 5mpg less than what it should be, across the board. Probably par for the course, as they've never been touched in its lifetime and it's got nearly 127k on the clock. Been meaning to pose the question about injector cleaning for quite some time, but haven't been bothered (more pressing issues to deal with), and now someone seems to have asked the question for me. Bingo!

I can't even do that - I put some redex in, but the injectors aren't even spraying anything! I pulled the fuel rail off - one sprays fuel, the rest did nothing. I managed to get three spraying for a brief moment by pumping fuel through for a while, but eventually they all stopped working. I know I have fuel, a spark and the electrics from the ECU are OK.. so it's them injectors alright. Has anyone tried putting 12V across an injector to open it up for a while with the fuel pump continuously on? Could that dislodge whatever's in there?
I've no idea what will help in practice, but the theory is something blocks the nozzles, yes?
I can see a reason why this might come about, in particular rusty fuel tank or the like, and it is likely to hit all the injectors at about the same time if there is a sudden change as the jolting as one or more cylinders fail will loosen up any rust that wants to come play.
At that point you're trying to get the chunks of rust to go back down the injector and out, they won't generally move forward into a tapering jet, right?
If as I now read back up the previous, the car was sitting for months building up condensation in the tank, I can be even more sure that rust lumps in the fuel are on the likely side. The condensation has to have been going
*somewhere*. I'd imagine there is a filter somewhere, but that might be rust from the inside of the fuel line downstream of a filter, and all manner of other scenarios.
Don't know - don't really care but I know more than I'd like to about letters getting lost in the post. (Grrrr). BTW Octa's got a knocking noise coming from the nearside rear quarter, reckon it must be the back door or seat catch or something similar - goes in tomoz to get sorted (hopes). Seems to be when chassis flexes or rocks back and forth - not related to violent manoeuvres as just the gentlest turning or swaying at 30mph or less can make it knock just as loud and it's not all the time but unfortunately too much of it.
