Hello from a lurker!

Hello chaps.

Been lurking around on this newsgroup now for a few years, i may have posted occasionally but nothing memorable sadly! So, hello to everyone *waves*

I chucked some pictures of my two cars onto the URCM gallery, and my last saxo which met an unexpected end one sunny June afternoon. I notice people have already started baiting the VTR, so thanks very much for that :P

Anyway, I have a problematic fiesta also and am seeking some advice from your most knowledgable brows. It's been fettled about by none other than Mr. David Bolton who i remember used to post here quite frequently, and his parter in crime Robert is still here in spirit if not wit and wisdom? :)

Basically, it wont start, it started fine getting it onto the trailer but ive had no luck since. Ive so far checked and cleaned the plugs and leads, dizzy cap and arm, air filter, sprayed wd40 down the carb. Seems to be firing once or twice when turning over but never looks likely to catch. Hence, I'm guessing its a fuel problem. (guessing has proved to take a large part of my time with the car as i haven't got round to purchasing a haynes manual. also i dont live at the address where the car is stored so i have little time to work on it)

Fuel is delivered via a tricksy little 2 gallon alloy tank sitting in the cabin, and is delivered through lines in the car to the fuel filter (i think). I can hear fuel sloshing back though the lines after every failed start attempt so i know its moving through, but i'm definately lacking knowledge of the whereabouts of my fuel pump - i dont quite see how its being delivered though to the carb.

I'm running out of ideas for the wee thing. short of a mallet. any help is appreciated - though you'll probably need to try and coax some relevant information out of me first!

thanks,

Ren

you didnt buy daves old black XR2 did you????

oh my god lol

anyways as to your problem

what setup is on the car

is it a standard carb and air cleaner?

i know dave ripped the turbo lump out and sold seperate but have a funny feeling it may be an ex injection lump in your 2 can you confirm this by having a look at the top of the engine (at the back of the rocker cover there should be a little thingy sticking out the head (this being the stock carb fuel pump held on by 2 bolts undo these and make sure the drive gears in place (common mistake put the pump back on without the driver. if the fuel pump aint there and its a blanking plate it will be a leccy pump bodge somewhere in the car cant help without more info with that

where are you located btw?

presume your local to fife if so let me know how you get on i'll pop round and give you a hand come the weekend if your still strugglin

my bad when i say common mistake put the pump back on without the driver

i mean it is a common mistake to

it needs the little drive gear in other words :)

other thing to do is take the air filter off and look down the carb barrell and pull the throttle cable after you've tried turning the car over you should see fuel being squirted into the carb if not its a fuel feed problem for sure :)

if your in need of a pump you may be in luck think i've still got a few lurking in the box o bits in the shed

btw do i actually know you?????

as i said i don't have a chance to have a look and see if theres fuel coming through at the moment, which is annoying as it could probably get done about

15 times faster.

I think the engine is from another F reg XR2, that used to belong to a red XR2 owned by nick sanderson - of which i now own both doors, the wheels and tailgate! Pretty sure its not a 2i/3i lump.

I'm just outside colinsburgh mate, any help is appreciated, or even if you just wanna come and have a laugh at it :)

Thanks,

Ren

cheers mate, expect some flustered emails at some point then mate! :)

been on xrtwo.com a fair bit, theres a couple of tasty zetec/ZVH conversions knocking about. would still prefer a turbo conversion myself but i'd really have to find a cheapio erst to even think about it. plus you wouldn't have to drive a nova! :)

nick sanderson does xr2 racing at knockhill -check

lol dont knock the nova ;)

mines is pretty stockish bar chip/filter/zorst/headwork and is making a rather natty 175 bhp :)

granted the engine weighs the same as the rest of the car and it handles like a pig even on a koni setup but hey its fun \

hey ERSTs are cheaper than you think
