In car MP3/DVD player

Apologies if this has been asked already, which it probably has many times but I'm a lazy git. What's the best price/performance solution? Is it a pain fitting them? Not bothered about anything too fancy, no trick (or is it sick now) ICE, just a straight DVD/mp3 player. Just about to start trawling around for options and thought those on here in the know could save me some time and point the way.

thanks J

Does the DVD changer connect via the 'IP BUS', and is the FM tuner UK compatible (I assume no RDS...). Do you need an additional antenna for TV?

dvd player does work through the ip bus (when the tossers send me the missing ip bus cable that wasn't in my box!)

fm tuner uk no RDS and tv needs a damn good aerial for a signal i think or maybe seperate i'm not sure as it isn't wired up plus it'll probably be analogue s**te!

Can you burn a DVD full of Mp3s and play them or do they have to be on cd?

6 DVDs worth of music would mean I would never need to change a disk again.

Errrrr let me think, cook it for dinner?!?!

Since the previous owner didnt give me a stereo coz the fool didnt have the code :) i needed something cheap and cheerful coz i was missing my music. And its a nice Clarion head unit with RDS, and more importantly it has line-in jacks so i've hooked up a stereo lead that leads to a little cubby hole in the centre console so i can connect my laptop up to it at the mo, and after Christmas, my new mp3 player. So i'm well happy with it.

And i've even dug out some old Nirvana and Prodigy cassettes, and also recorded 90mins of MP3s off my PC onto a cassette. Old skool meets new skool!

cheeky motherf...... i mean, god that's stupid, who sells a car without any kind of stereo these days *cough*

i'm looking at ditching my DVD for a cd headunit that has control for an ipod.

whats a cassette? :)

I'm amazed how little and how offensively overpriced some of the offerings are - surely with the PC market developments and DVD's status now as *the* digital storage and media solution they could have more to offer by now.

I think this looks like what i'm after.

any thoughts - the details are a little vague for my liking - wonder if it will connect to the existing skoda cd changer head unit or whether I need to replace it.

That's all it's good for !

I haven't owned a cassette within the last ten years, so it wouldn't be able to play any of my music :)

Ah righty, so you can actually get music into it from a medium that still exists then :)

Me neither (apart from some old tapes i've dug out). But most of the time i listen to the radio anyway.

Yep, cheap and cheerful, exactly what i wanted! All my spare money is going into the car/Christmas :(

I've just ordered the 60GB version myself from dabs.com, sounds like a cracking piece of kit and I can't wait until it arrives. Check out the Dension website, try the Community link and checkout the postings ... most folk seem to be very happy with it!

If you're just after a CD / MP3 player - which I heartily recommend - then your local Motor World type franchise will normally have them starting at about £99.

Which irritates me somewhat, because not three years ago I paid £300 for my Kenwood, which finds tracks much more slowly.
