My knowledge just about stretches to that but there appears to a few sort of inverters. Which do i need? Any makes i should look out? Do you pay for what you get?

Cheers ron- so is it a case that 400 watt is the minimum i should get or is it a case that i must only get a 400 watt one?

400 watt will provide more power than you could ever need for an X-Box, with that you could boil a small kettle. 150watts would work for an X-Box, but they aren't much cheaper than a 400watt.

Have a looksee if any one makes a DC-DC X-box PSU, similar to the PS2 models (google for car PSUs). that will allow your X-Box to run straight DC car battery power. and the power it gets will be far cleaner, plus it will put less load on your alternator.

The bigger, the better.

Buy the biggest one you can afford - make sure it'll fit in your car though :) They get pretty warm too, so you don't really wanna enclose it without some ventilation. 400 watt will be fine for an XBox - it's always better to have more than you need.
