is this a nob thing to do?

would i be a class a nob to sell my MR2 for a MK1 MX5? wanna save a few quid (super unleaded is £1 litre round here now!) but i want something that handles. i'll get the gay man/hair dresser comments but nothing to much different that the MR2 turbo doesn't get me :)

just wanna slow things up a bit for a few years and save some cash. good or bad idea and what alternatives should i consider you think? keeping in mind i like jap tat :)

Bad idea, but you arn't going to listen to realistic alternatives in your situation... are you?

I take it you've not been to court yet - if the worst happens, as in a long ban, you'll be better off flogging the MR2 and not having anything whilst you 'serve your time'.

It'll reduce the temptation to risk getting caught again, and if you're that worried about spunking the money away, get someone you can trust like your parents to hold it in an account, until the time comes when you can go back on the road again.

Main thing now, is get the case out the way, then make a few decisions once you know exactly what you're up against.

Get the court case out of the way before you decide what to buy next.

You may well find that even a 1.6 MX5 is crippling to insure after that.

On the other hand, MX5s are stupidly cheap at the moment....

well yeah but i mean i would probably sell it while banned or just before the court date once i get told i have to go. then getting something different whatever happens.

Well as I say... I'd do that... once you've got your licence back.

Anything sitting on the drive is just going to be looking all sorry for itself, and sending you subliminal messages that 'I'll only do it the once', and 'I won't get caught'.

Get caught on a ban, and you're looking at an even more lengthy ban / more fines etc.

Ahh that's more like it matey, I presumed due to the way you worded it that you wanted to buy the MX5 before the case. Just wait, you won't be able to decide until your insurance premiums have been adjusted. You might be able to afford something nice, on the other had you might not....

Also you have to factor in the time it could take to sell the MR2 for a good price... could take days, weeks or months.

Underseal all of it, weld a railway line on each end (bumpers!) leave a german shephard soaked in oil on a chain in it, fit 4 wheels (anything stupidly wide but painted black with remoulds) on it, and never close the windows or lock it. Should get over the hair drier/gay thing...

And fit a fit leather clad blonde bird / driver to drive you everywhere and collect you?

Dont worry bout insurance, I have been banned five times for exessive speeding (big bikes, v8 sierra, drag racing and hooliganistic tendencies - oh and several - 5+? - write offs) and my insurance was never expensive. My modded v8 nitrous sierra was CHEAPER than it was it was a 1.6, (167 quid third party) even now, after cartwheeling a 1200 bandit into a ditch at god only knows what speed (another write off, and a 1.8 million squid claim, and

5 years in court!) I still manage to insure a modified VR6 van worth 30 grand agreed value, fully comp with legal and windscreen, and protected no claims for less than 270 quid!

You just need a telephone. Someone specialises in everything!

So buy one, but get punk hair, (orange?) And leather jacket and a pierced everything. And a fit blond black leather wearing bird with a healthy sexual appetite. (and the mad max car customisation and NOS)

Yes, they all specialise in shafting, very hard, from behind, anyone who's had a speeding ban and plans on using anything remotely sporty as a commuting car.

I was 3 write offs and 3 speeding bans in, when I insured a Nitrous V8 sierra with flux for less (much less) than 200 quid...

I have never had a commuting car. And dont want one.

The telephone is your freind...

You're full of shit.

Having done the trawl round for a classic policy over the last week or so, I know that you have no idea about how much insurance companies will load a premium if you want to use anything for normal mileage and including commuting.

Reply to
SteveH

Obviously you didnt ring the right ones. I have never had insurance issues. If you spend less than 15 percent of your premium ringing aroung companies that dont advertize much you are most likely paying too much. I know its hard work but so far its worked just fine.

I think it's a good idea. I've never heard a bad thing said about the MX-5 barring hairdresser comments. And you got plenty of them with the MR2. And you can always turbo it or put a 13b rotary in it at a later date. ; )

I suggested it mate. Old ones are cheap as chips, and while the 1.8 has more go, the 1.6 is supposed to be smoother. Mazda make good engines, that is why there versions of Ford cars generally look, run, sound better, but sell cheaper on the used market.
