Lexus LS400? Luxury everyday or money pit waiting to happen?

Hmmm.

Mondeo has more space and better handling (for values of handling that include weightings for feel, turn in and grip factor). Also bigger boot, admittedly a drab interior. Mondeo 2.2 diesels are better to drive too. Like it or not the C class and 3 series overlap with the Passat range and have better handling and engines, even in basic form, and still get all round electric windows (a feature you seem to crave, oddly I've never needed to wind down the rear windows of our Verso which is windy, but my A class is electric all round, and in one way it's a pain as if your not concentrating you catch the wrong switch and feel daft at the toll booth). The Passat (current one) is nothing more than a stretched golf, which in itself isn't a bad thing, but really provides nothing more than a way for VW to have a medium saloon without big production costs. I think it's better than the old Passat, but since the demise of its real competition (the Rover 75) leaving it with the Vectra (better sporty versions, but the base ones feel cheap) and the Mondeo (again base ones feel cheap but the upper models are good) and the Avensis (dull but good, bit like the Passat) it is bound to sell well. In terms of engines, the Vectra and the Avensis diesels are better than the VW ones to drive.

It's easy to install in a transverse setup which is its main reason for existence. And the torque split can be as high as you want it. Don't forget, the Veyron uses Haldex too.

I think you're wrong. Oh and to add to the list the new Freelander uses haldex too.

Yeah but we all know the Veyron is shit.

Breaking news from VW, "We can make a turbo car go as fast as a 20 year=20 old Alfa Romeo".

Just the small matter of the 33 being around 900kgs and the Passat being

1500kgs.

How late is late for it to have the 24v derv lump? Saw what I'm fairly sure would have been a W124 E300TD Estate today - can't remember what year it was though, will keep an eye out for it again.

Well, take a guess :-)

Sort of wrong on that count, btw - I do remember at least being told about, or seeing one somewhere.

Personally I've always found leccy windows all round quite handy, partly because (well, in the case of non-air conditioned cars) it's sometimes nice to wind down the passenger side rear window so you get a breeze coming through, but not something so intense as to have a massive chill effect on your face and blow your hair bloody everywhere.

I know people get annoyed with themselves at parking badly, but to scrap a car because of it is a bit extreme, wouldn't you say? :-)

I understand that you can have the Haldex reprogrammed for a more exciting balance. I know of a few TT drivers who have had this done and are pleased with the results. Wonder if VAG-Com can modify it?

Thought that was banned so long as you post here.

Yeah, but it doesn't take 20 years to that. My old 1200kilo Saab 900 T16S could do that. My old 25 year old Saab 900 T16S could do that. Probably out handle the Passat too.

In news: snipped-for-privacy@news.individual.net, Elder wittered on forthwith;

Nah, you can drive whatever you like.. just don't expect people to say "oooh, that's a bit lovely" if it clearly isn't..

Now you're confusing high pressure and low pressure turbo installations.

I don't expect them to if it clearly is.
