Signed up to the South Wales Car Club last week, as they had an awesome deal on a track day at Llandow sprint circuit - 60 quid, open pit.
The circuit is fairly simple to look at, but quite challenging to drive.
I suffered huge amounts of brake fade - especially into the bus stop and the chicane - where you're braking down from around 100mph in 4th.
The long, sweeping bend after the bus-stop was awesome to drive, and the last corner coming onto the main straight was incredibly challenging - being narrow, off-camber and having a tyre wall very close to the outside with zero run-off.
Some great cars there - the usual Skylines, RX7s and an assortment of BMWs were joined by a handful of seriously track prepped Novas, a snorty MkII Escort, rally spec. 309 with a lumpiest cam I've ever seen and an RS200!
Great value for money, great entertainment - a special mention should go to the guy with a budget Merc C220 track toy - he'd cut the coils so it was slammed to the deck, stripped the interior, and de-catted what sounded like a straight through exhaust. Most importantly, he left his brain at home.
Obligatory shot of me fighting the body roll:
I'd recommend it to anyone who wanted a budget, fun track day. Even if it does mean paying a tenner for SW-CC membership.
