Where is the best location to put a gps tracker so it wont be discovered and are their any particular types you'd recommend.

Before spending lots of money and effort fitting a tracker, consider if your car is likely to be taken by one of the many scrotes who go around equipped with a GPS jammer. They cost practically nothing, and make your tracker worthless.

In a safe, at your bank

They are all equally as good when used as directed.

The question you have to ask is this... is your car worth nicking?

None of mine are, so I don't need a tracker.

Thanks guys. Suppose the car was worth nicking, or for example you just wanted to remember where you left it. If you wanted to make a permanent wired install connected with the power, besides the obvious place of putting it right underneath the dash (avoiding any airbags) where else do you think would be a good location with access to power or where you can use a splitter on existing connector to draw power while keeping the device undetected? And of course assuming no jammer was being used too?

I was thinking about in one of the door pockets behind a speaker but not sure what power wires there if any and if I could use some sort of splitter? SOmetime there may be small door lights I could use and obtain power from? The other location I was thinking would be front or rear bumper (if made of plastic) but it would be more likely to be discovered there. Other thoughts would be under carpers in the boot or rear seats, or maybe secured behind a door mirror? I know there would be power there and if secure in place well it could be a good place. Even better if it's surrounded by plastic. If no plastic then you could have it at an angle? I am thinking dash may be the best place but not easiest to put in so I am thinking for a permanent install where would be easy to install and still a good place that is completely hidden.

All cars are worth £250 at the scrapyard.

In headlining, cabin light usually has a perm live. Hazard lights perm live. Brake lights are also usually perm live.

In the rear bumper between the foam and the skin, level with the bumper bar is good. Most cars would have access though the number plate recess. On cars with a boot the back seats, rear panel and bumper bar will help provide shielding from short range jammers.

Put the cig lighter on a hidden switch or pull it's plug. Or wire it to a voltage multiplier, that charges a nice fat capacitor, so it destroys anything plugged in to it. Then they will just set fire to the car, it's the way they say F**K you.

Having worked on afew cars with trackers fitted, I can assure you that behind the dash or boot or bumpers is NOT where they are fitted. I'm also not going to divulge where they tend to be fitted on an open forum either.

They only require a very small and switched power supply as they contain their own battery and charging equipment.

Really ? My Astra van has one "hidden" behind the glovebox.

:-> YMMV

I suppose you could ask yourself that, but - given that it's a bit of a stupid question - it would be a pretty pointless thing to do.

Took me 10secs to find one once. Just below the drivers side fusebox.

Mate has one fitted (I helped fit it) behind the dash mounted on top of the radio/sat-nav casing with double sided tape .. ;)

Easy, though slow and awkward to get to, even if you know where it is, but extremely hard to get out quickly without causing damage .. the radio can't be pulled out without first removing the unit, so 'other parts' of the dash also need removing too ...
