LOL, I start a new Job on Monday with a long commute

I said EFi. Only fools, don't slap fools, who do K-jet

Bosch LH2.2 and 2.4. Nice and simple, very few sensors. No buggering=20 about. And enough cars used them. Good enough for Saab, Volvo among=20 others.

Until I can afford something silly to play with with an autobox and fuel economy.

We have a fenced in Company car park. Surprisingly secure. I fancy something big, funny fueled, auto and roller painted Satin black.

Should keep the monkeys off.

From memory the 306 is reasonably bigger than the 106 my sister used to have, but she had hers ages ago now so my memory is a bit rusty.

I *can* tell you that I'm 6'2 and with the seat right back i can sit comfortably and get my legs under the steering wheel, and not have any backache or cramps etc. even after doing e.g. Rockingham to Stockton in one stint.

If there is anything annoying about the car, it's the seats are typical French, in that the back rest doesn't come up to my shoulders (the Megane was the same). If it's been a while since I've had a haircut and I spike it up it rubs annoyingly on the headlining (Megane was the same oddly), and the glovebox just about holds a pair of gloves...

Anyway, how about a 406?

I used to get the the hair on the headlining thing on the GT4. Bloody annoying as when you get out, the static keeps it up for a while. Abd if you use gel, it is all knocked out of shape.

The Ocatavia has put me off modern cars, and that is fairly simple and been very reliable. What would a 406 Auto diesel be like to drive?

Not really the distance. Took me an hour this morning. And I arrived in Manchester at 9.50, after the peak and still crawled. 35 minutes of that journey was Mancunian way crawling. Google reckons 37 minutes. One way is 23 Miles. But it is the sitting in traffic foot off and on the clutch, crawling in 1st gear I want to avoid. it is 12 miles a day more than I used to do, return, but most of that 12 miles will be 1st and 2nd gear. Hence wanting a diesel or LPG auto with armchairs.

I'd be quite tempted to take the M60 / A34.

ISTR the M60 doesn't really get busy 'till the narrow lanes around Stockport - if you jump off it onto the A34 before then, you can nip through a fair number of back streets to get to Gorton / Reddish area.

Auto+Diesel+old+cheap = Merc. Parts not too dear either, but they are slow as they didn't have turbos until more recent models.

You could get a cheap A170 diesel auto and run it until money gets better, that's why I got mine. In 14 months and 40k miles it cost me 39mpg to fuel (most people get 45-50), 150 quid for two independant services, 60 quid for brake pads, two 35 quid good quality tyres and 2000 quid in depreciation (and that's buying from main dealer and px at main dealer, would have lost

1000-1200 in a private buy/sell). Crap ride and a couple of warranty claims for steering and suspension but as a main dealer purchase it was not a problem due to the dealer warranty. And it had cruise and climate. Oh I added a 200 quid CD player and about the same in speakers and sub as well. So total cost 17 ppm not including insurance (400 quid, cheapest I've ever had - bad area, street parking, high miles, biz use, low excess, short no claims, filthy license).

C/w the volvo. 28 mths, 100k miles, 24mpg, 1500 servicing, 400 quid brakes,

1300 quid tyres, 12000 depreciation, 2000 quid insurance. 34ppm.

Horrible, just like every other car you suggest.

I'll have a look at that. Looks a load further, but might be quicker. I did think about the M56/M60, but that always gets Snarled up.

Probably very boring lol. My uncle has had 406 turbo diesels for his last three cars, and a 405 before that. I dunno why he didn't just keep the first 406, for the miles he does. I guess a couple of people have got some three-year-old low mileage bargains...
