Apart from the obvious suggestions of ringing around some scrappies, and looking in the front/back of your local Autotrader for exchange/recon engine suppliers, it might be worth noting that the 1.7d is an isuzu engine, so some of the jap engine importers might be able to help.

My comiserations :)

Most definitely it will, however this will be counted as a modification - a engine mod in fact, which will push your insurance premium up drmatically.

It's almost certainly more sensible to sell your current car and buy a genuine td - the insurance probably won't change by much that way. (plus you have the option of upgrading to a better car than an astra ;-)

Nay problem, jemmy.

ISTR all derivatives of the Isuzu 1.7 lump are in short supply.... something to do with cracking heads or blocks, I think.

Really??

Hmmn i got one currently fitted in a corsa.... yours for ..well the value of the car....

its hiddiously slow in the corsa,

sell the car and get another without the izusu lump, which all the mechanics ive met hate working on

They never made a 1.7 TD Corsa. All of the 1.7 D's were naturally aspirated (asthmatic??). The 1.5 TD went quite well....

But they dont go wrong?! Well aside from the shims needing adjustment to cure poor cold starting at around 70k mile intervals. Have a 96 Cav TD with

220k on the clock, sweet as a nut and only routine servicing. Even the mega bucks alternator is still original.

'94 Vauxhall Astrays used a vauxhall Diseasal engine that was absolute s**te! they only used it for about 12 months before sticking the Izuzu engine in! Most common fault of the Vx diseasal engine was sticking a rod through the side of the block! Becasue of the (thankfully) limited run working Vx diseasal blocks are hens teeth! Or rocking horse shit, whichever you prefere! ;)
