They claim that a diesel engine should be able to cope with these big jumps in perfomance, any opinions can the engine's stand it or will it destroy it in next to no time?

takes 170bhp to 205Bhp and 400Nm to 485Nm

what car is it? sounds reasonable to me.

Unlike the phrase from the link: Because the engine is now more efficient, economy is also improved as you will use less throttle for the same conditions.

Which is bull.

Should do it easy. Just like a dding a stage 3 kit to a Saab LPT and getting over 60BHP. Easy done if you know how.

170PS for tax reasons I think.

I've had a look and they are all the same modules for the mercs but how are you supposed to plug them in? I'm thinking of getting on for the vito and at that price it looks like it's too good to be true

yup SAAB mechanic where i work did the company directors SAAB sport wagon TDI, dunno what the increase was but the torque increase made a huge difference! bout £500 i think they charge and all they do is whack it on a laptop and some nerd over at SAAB in sweeden does a software update on the ECU via a direct connection over the network, done it about 30mins as the mechanic has to do a few thingys too after the ECU is put back i believe.

that's the immshcheshehe mushebfvhe tuning thing SAAB do, spelling might be a bit wrong on that mind :)

All the "tuning boxes" do the same thing - intercept the injector message and get the ecu to inject more fuel - plug into the wiring harness before the ECU.

Quite a few guys on the A class forum have them - makes quite a difference and none have exploded yet.

the guys from mercedes plug in a lead into the diagnotsic post somewhere under the dash, so thats where the big lead can go, but what about the others? they don't seem long enough to reach into the engine bay............

besides, there is a whopping price difference between the 3 sites but their power upage is remarkably similar

hmmm

nonononono unplug the ECU, plug cable into one connector, ecu into other, secure box with cable tie. Doesn't go anywhere near the diag port, nice and easy to remove when making warranty claims too.

On all the common railers, alll the tunit boxes plug between the common rail pressure sensor and the ecu and artificially lower the pressure signal the ecu sees, so it cranks up injector duration to as it doesnt think there is as much pressure as there it. net result more fuelling.

aha

so, other than putting into the wires from the ecu, there is nothing else yes? whats this "screw" they keep on about turning?

Nope.

The potentiometer is merely akin to a fuelling screw- it comes set at a "stock + 10%" for example, and you can twiddle it up or down to the point a) where you get too much smoke, or b) the signal goes out of range of what the ECU knows is sensible and it reverts to LOS mode.
