Mini-test: Silvercrest bluetooth headunit.

Cheapy from Lidl.

Works as it should, phone/a2dp works nice, come with external=20 mic/button.

Tuner is fairly powerful, sounds OK through 15 year old Saab speakers,=20 better than the Philips/vdo nav headunit that was in.

And I can still leave the nav system in the boot to swap out the=20 headunit if/when I sell.

I was sort of considering one of these, as well as the Sony one Conor has. How is the mic connected, and how big is it? The Sony has the mic built in to the HU, which is a win for installation, but maybe not so good speech-wise.

Mic is about the size of bluetooth headset, with a "talk" button on it, and about 6 feeet of cable with a mini din style plug into the unit. Connection to the car is standard ISO plugs instead of bare wires that cheapos have.

Haven't tried it driving yet, but with the engine running and mic on the dash with a sticky pad (supplied) and the fan blowing full blast thanks to the failed controller, I could hear Alison fine, and she said there was a bit of background noise but could hear. The mic also has like a collar clip type slip on fitting maybe for sunvisors or panel edges.

The front panel is nicely damped when you open it to change disc. Feels very solid. And you can record radio or disc, or aux input/usb/ card onto either the usb or card in either MP3 or WMA format.
