MOT TIme

The TI is the first car I've had in bloody ages that I've had to MOT. Other cars I've got bored of or have been such utter wrecks that I decided to save my =A340 and binned them.

I checked all the bulbs last night and there were two weird LED ones in the headlamps that I had to replace as neither worked. (Nom did you put them there? WTF are they???) and the N/S repeater wasn't working. While I was attempting to remove it to change the bulb (how the hell do you get them off?) it started working again!?! Weird.

Apart from that, there's the weird graunching sound when decelerating on a right-hand bend (usually big roundabouts) and the mysterious clanging sound that sometimes happens on speedbumps that are cause for concern. However if the MOT picks up what's causing them and they're solved as a result I can't really complain (apart from needing to pay for them to be repaired).

Of course there's the annual TI failure of the PAS pump pipe leaking too and I'm pretty sure it's leaking again as the car was parked up for over a month in Budapest and there was a stain on the ground below the rough location PAS pump.

Then there's the crack in the windscreen that resulted from my 155mph (indicated) on the Autobahn back from Hungary...

Fingers, toes and legs crossed. The TI's worth spending a few quid on to keep it shipshape though so I won't mind 100-200 quid on repairing it if necessary. Just don't tell the garage that :)

hmmm.. OE doesn't seem to be able to ">" prefix google groups postings... bah, have to do it manually

So you're not bored of it yet then? I've had mine for 3 years now and still love it :)

hehe, they weren't blue were they? if so, sounds like Nom had some chav tendencies ;)

Rear lights, esp brake ones, commonly (and more frequently than they should) go on 600's for some reason.

Must admit mine's got a few little clunky type noises now.. I mostly brake quite late & thus harder, and I think calipers can get a bit clunky after a few years of that kind of abuse. My old Jag did that too, but the mechanic said it shouldn't affect the actual braking ability and isn't an MoT failure. Also, I usually corner quite hard which probably puts more stress on suspension etc with the rapid & more forceful weight shift involved. A scraping noise also emanates from the left front wheel when I turn to the right - someone suggested that could be a wheel bearing, whereas I have always been paranoid that the tyre is scraping on something (though it's fine on the other side).

There is? I didn't think you'd had it that long.. mine has never given any probs.. in fact nothing on the car has, except a replacement radiator due to stone damage (which 600's a bit prone too) and the still unresolved passenger airbag.

Really?? They're only sposed to go 143mph tops.. has the engine been tweaked?

Absolutely :-)

I believe Nom did a sesame street have his engine looked at by the letters M, B, and C

Ah well, it passed (said it should've failed for the windscreen as the crack is in the sweep of the wipers but let it slide) so I put it in for a service while it's there. =A345 for a service, not bad eh!

As arnie said, "I'll be back"

Providing the car comes back in a fit state with no nasty surprises of course...

Yep, becuase the wastegate stays shut then snaps open when the spring moves, rather than gradually opeing, or being bled off like a factory controller.

I don't think mine does.. took it to 140 but didn't feel it would have gone much faster, and I have the same size tyres on as yours too...

You've been lucky. I've never seen a TI that doesn't have a leaky PAS pipe.

He did say indicated...

When you think you're doing 143, you're only doing about 130. You need the speedo to hit almost 160 to get near 145...

Sure your boost is running ok ? Mine used to pull like a train even at an indicated 145.

Unfortunately, being a Rover 600, it used to shake like a train at that speed as well tho :)

Actually, we tested Nom's with a GPS and we were doing GPS 116 at 120 indicated - so they can't be that far off surely?

I don't have one.. should I? does it make the car accelerate more quickly? will it make the engine more likely to blow up? ;)

hehe.. you jest at Rover's expense, but I bet you miss it :)

only got 65k on the clock, so perhaps that's yet to come!

Mine's just touched 75K and had 65K when I got it and Nom's always had the leaky PAS pipe!

ah that's when the MR2 turbo is better, 145mph indicated is amazingly stable! i'm glad the coppers never clocked me that day :)

although you can't fix an MR2 as cheaply as a rover or pick them up for a couple of quid and a mars bar ;)

Who cares, it's a poofs car !

Jest ? That was completely serious, the 620ti is utterly *hideous* to drive at the top end of its speed range.

probably because you had bigger rims on and buggered tracking.
