neon SRT-4

But it's not sub 15k, it's not over here (no neon at all on the chrysler uk webshite), and here's some facts.

Road and track raved about its straight line performance - but compared it to 6 non turbocharged cars with at least 50 bhp disadvantage. They commented on its crap handling and soft suspension - and labelled it as "great for the stop light challenge".

It's geared for 64mph in second - just to get the stonking 0-60 time. It's fitted with a tyre that's virtually a cut-slick (BF goodrich gforce t/a kdw).

It's running tons of boost (8.1:1 compression ratio) to get the power so it's not going to be a good drive. And at 20 grand it's dearer than the ford SVT focus (ST170 over here) which is 17000 quid, so it's not going to be less than that if they bring it. Which they won't, because us brits have noticed that neons are crap.

All good points :) So its not actually that cheap then, and its not really that good. Well, it is a Neon, dunno what else i was expecting really :)

I'd be surprised to see it over here for any less than a smidge under £20k.

Same here, no hope unless i order a minimun of 10 at 700+vat each...

Nothing to do with the Chrysler-Daimler-Benz family connection then? ;)

Not good value at all - it'll be over the £20,000 mark when it arrives here.

They aren't gonna sell many, when you can pick up a 280bhp 4x4 WRX STi for less money !

Layout:Front-Engine/FWD

0-60 mph:5.3 sec

LOL !

But it'll be slower, AND more expensive, than the *much* better Impreza WRX STi !

There's no reason to buy a Neon, when you can have the real thing for less money !

£20K for a hot Neon isn't cheap - the new Golf GTi is the same money, Vauxhall's new Astra VXR will be about the same, Civic Type-R is much less cash, Leon Cupra R is also less cash, Focus RS is on the way, etc. etc.

The hot-hatch market is very crowded - the Neon only has a hope, if they can get it on the road for under £15K. But if it's $20K in the USA, then there's a 0% chance of that happening...

3-year warranty is standard on UK cars though. It would only be a talking point if it DIDN'T have one :)

But there are already *STACKS* of good hot-hatches available in the UK !

Why do you think the Neon is gonna be better ?

It's got no chance against the new Golf GTi, or Vauxhall's new Astra VXR - both are held in very high regard !

In a word, no :)

I've got FWD, double-wishbone suspension, TorSen diff, and somewhere around

220bhp.

I can tell you without hesitation, that FWD cannot handle 350bhp :)

Somewhere around 250bhp is the absolute maximum, and even then, you'd really want some electronic help in the wet.

Spot on.

Theo hasn't noticed that the $$$ to £££ conversion, has nothing whatsoever to do with the exchange rate :)

I'm repeadly having this argument on here.

when they say "FWD can ahndle xxxxx" what they actually mean is "someone has built and FWD car that runs at XXX"

FWD with much over 230-240 BHP is ok BUT would be far far far far better RWD or even 4WD.

Standing starts, no. But the 100-150 time of my mates Volvo T6 is something else (272 bhp)

Yeh but it does have a very long wheelbase, certainly a lot longer than a Neon. So weight transfer is a lesser (though still significant) problem. If it had the Jaguar 4.2 supercharged V8 in it, it wouldn't go any faster, but it would make interesting skid marks.

Jag 4.2 V8 Super - isn't that 400 horses? Plenty of S80s pushing

325bhp/430Nm throught the front wheels, some of the T5 tuning nutters are making 400+bhp..

Suffice to say they'll spin wheels in frd... but it's all good harmless fun...

Yes, but I doubt it affects real world performance because all that will happen is pathetic scrabbling noises from the front and horrible understeer.

If you're going to go American, stick to something they do /reasonably/ well, like big lazy RWD V8s...

I like this one for the way it looks, (better in motion or the Matrix than in static shots) nevermind the same 'simple' lazy V8 and RWD appeal.

$45,000 - about £24k in UK money at the moment isn't it?
