New digital MOTs

Hi all

I'm tempted to put the Swift through an MOT. It still has 6 months to run on its current ticket but I'm planning on going travelling in about

8 months so I'd rather save the hassle a few months down the line to be honest.

If I MOT it now and it fails (unlikely because it's done less than 2K in the 6 months since the last one and I've just given it a good check over at the weekend) does the new digital MOT system register this and annul the old-type paper one I got with the car?

I'm just trying to weigh up the risks.

Oh, and if there are still any MOT testing stations in the Manchester area that still do the old type MOTs, please let me know!

Mine went in and failed about 3 weeks ago in a garage on the new system... If I check on the VOSA website it says it failed and that their are no current passes on the vehicle.

I'm still driving it around (maybe wrongly I don't know) on the idea that I still have an MOT cert and it only says that because the current MOT is from the old system.....

No, The old one is still valid.

I am quite sure that I read that in such circumstances the old one is NOT still valid. I looked-up about it when my local place when digital.

Surely the old one would be invalid? How can a car fail an MoT and still be road worthy? And the electronic MoTs mean that this can be traced more easily.

An old 'paper' MOT would still be valid in terms of taxing the car or producing. An unroadworthy car can be so one day after the MOT test. ;-)

Isnt the PO hooked up to the DVLA too now? When I last got tax they scanned the barcode off my reminder and knew all my car's details. Still had a paper jobbie at that point too.

Oh I know, but the electronic MoT mean it'll be far easier to trace these above circumstances.

Yeah, but is the PO and DVLA hooked up to VOSA yet? that is the biggy.
