new motor in the house

dad just purchased a 54 plate x-trail from my work, SVE spec with more extras than a top spec BMW! sat nav, eleccy leather seats (heated too!) climate, cd player ect ect in a nice blue colour! oh and it's a 2.2DCi diesel (bout as close as he and i like to be to a renault)

drives nice, normally hate 4x4 handling but the x-trail is a nice lil beast really! and the old man can park it ok too! :)

All you need to do now is to build up a lardy arse to fill the seat.

:-p

na what it needs is window tints and some chrome 20' spinners :)

Got a 53plate 2.5 myself. Surprises quite afew chavvy-racers away from the lights what with 170brake. ha ha ha.

Had a quote for 350 quid for tints. Abit steep I think..

My grandad used to have a maroon 2.2DCi. Well nice. I liked the little refridgerated cubby hole in the dash to keep your can of coke cool!

My business partner has the 2.5 petrol. Great car. I tried to talk the wife into one but she wanted the turbo Forrester. : )

So as a long term owner, what is your review?

I cant see why anyone other than a farmer or serious off roader would want a

4X4...............oh also complete and utter tossers such as "vamp" of course!

Are these people farmers, off roaders, or wankers?

Vamp doesn't own one. What made you think he did. And does that comment include every Quattro, Impreza, Lancer Evolution, GT4, GT0/GT3000,FF Interceptor,Volvo AWD,323 4x4 turbo,Justy, and Legacy owner then?

Ken, are you a wanker?

Agreed. I had a dCi Sport for a few weeks last year after the Astra was declared unworthy of repair by the lease company...

It was a nice smooth drive, decent performance (all things considered), good visibility, good load-lugger, decent mpg etc. etc.

The missus wants to swap the Zafira for an X-Trail SVE... I'd prefer a Navara but the seats in the back are too small :(

There are two kinds of people ken, wankers and liars. And I was always told that a liar was worse than a thief. Are you a wanker or a liar?

well shit face if you read my post you'll see it aint me how owns it and my dad has good reason to have one! it was practical and could hold a load of stuff which he wanted! he didn't really buy it with the off road 4x4 stuff in mind! it was just good for what he wanted. he was looking at SAAB estates and Astra estates, the astra estates were a but pikey (wind down windows in the back!!! f*ck off vauxhall! and on an SXI!!!) and the SAAB's was to over priced for a tarted up vectra plus they look a bit ugly now. and on top of that he can use my staff discount so out of mitsibuishi, peugeot, vauxhall, nissan, saab and renault oh and daewoo i mean chevvy :) the x trail did what he wanted and it won't get stuck in a field big deal!

i normally hate 4x4's but the x-trail is one i quite like having driven (unlike ken the kunt) it now properly :)

My point was that unless you have any specific use for a vehicle with 4 wheel drive, then there is little point in owning one, as there are other vehicles that would be far more suitable for intended purpose.

I didn't mess with the 900 conv turbo. It didn't need it. If I wanted to feel faster I lowered the roof. The Octavia, why bother, it is an 8v 2 litre runarround, I have aircon,=20 electric windows and mirrors and comfortable seats. I added an MP3=20 headunit to get a variety of tunes. Soon, I fancy building something stupid in spare time. Like a CooperS supercharged on a Rapid using RiC parts, quad bike=20 throttle bodies and a magasquirt. It might never happen, I might start=20 it and run out of time, money and patience, or I might finish it. Who=20 knows.

BTW on the Celica, all the work was done entirely by me, except the=20 bushes and exhaust as I didn't have an oxytorch or ramp, so I used a=20 local mechanic and assisted on a saturday backpocket cash job.

Celica GT4. Boost raised from 8 to 12psi. Manual boost controller (Dawes=20 device) fitted. Oil temp, oil pressure and calibrated boost gauge fitted=20 for monitoring. Knock LED fitted to the ECU. TVIS removed so all boost available in all gears all the time. Relied on=20 owners brain to not be stupid (me). Dump valve fitted. No valve as standard but I was running 1/3 more boost=20 than standard and noticed ramping up when changing gear. Stock airbox replaced with a sheilded cold air intake. Stock exhaust replaced with 2.5" mongoose stainless. Catalytic converter replaced with 3" stainless decat pipe with flow=20 restrictor to match 2.5" exhaust and miminise boost spikes from using=20 the MBC (compromise but safer than trying to go manual with a 3" full=20 flow system without a steel headgasket). KYB uprated shocks and Eibach pro springs fitted. Rear anti-roll bar uprated to improve underteer. Rear diff mount replaced with a solid Ali plate and poly bushes. Rear suspension bushes replaced with ploy bushes. DBA discs and Akebono Ceramic pads fitted. Tyres replaced like for like but new (who needs more than the factory=20 specced Z rated. Engine mounts replaced with TRD imports. Gear stick replaced with the factory short shift of an ST205 Gearbox shifter cable bushes replaced with Brass to lose the squidge. This was about performance on a budget

Saab 900 T16S added front mounted intercooler to replace inefficient=20 side mount, boost max and boost curve adjusted via the APC, GAZ shocks=20 and Eibach springs, Ferodo brake pads on grooved stock sized discs. Not lowered but tightened with damping adjustment available. This was just maintenance and improvement of a 20 year old =A3300 car=20 (full service history, flew through every MOT, and had electric=20 everything that worked)..

Favorit. Grooved discs, Mintex pads and shoes. Cobra bucket seats and OMP harnesses. Simoni leather steering wheel. K&N and centre restrictor removed from the exhaust and replaced with=20 straight through. HP Sporting "Special" struts and springs (Czech brand) Weight removed were possible. "Skoda cup" magnesium alloy wheels. this was about fun and point and squirt.

Skoda Estelle. Toyota celica scrapyard seats in front, Skoda Rapid rear seats. Gaz shocks and Yuckspeed springs. Weber twinchoke downdraft and K&N. Electric fuel pump, inline filter and regulator. Skoda group B replica exhaust and manifold (made by one of the group B=20 engineers in CZ). Grooved discs, Mintex pads and shoes. Not fast but could use 80% of what was available everywhere.

No: get a project lotus 7-clone with a bike-engine. It is stupid, unpractical, noisy and scarily quick on normal roads.

Tuneable too: at the rate bike engines develope, you fit a newly crashed one every year and power goes up faster than you like: CBR 900 (135 Hp), the 1200 Suzuki Bandit (143 HP), XX1100 170 Hp, R1 186 HP, hayabusa: as much as you like...

Searching now for a Yam R6 2006 engine: 132 HP out of 599 cc. The 2003-2005 engine only gave 120 HP...
