Nissan S13 vs Golf Mk2 GTi

I'm so torn, the GTi is a car I can use everyday and a car I have wanted for a long time and now suddenly a friend is offering me his for £500, the drive shaft is knocking and the interior is a little tatty but its the big bumper

8v model with a clean exterior in a 3 door format. It's also a really nice metallic grey. Insurance quoted at £1000 on my own and £590 on my mothers policy as a named driver.

On the other hand I can just use a 205 diesel and when I come back from university, transfer the insurance over to the S13, which is obviously considerably faster and more agile. £1900 again as a named driver.

Or I could get both... but I wouldnt have enough money to renovate them both I think...

Is it possible to transfer policies without looseing the no claims bonus?

What do you guys think?

Get it on your own insurance.

205 diseasel is less likely to get wrecked by pissed student scum.

No, Get the Golf, the Nissan is Japanese, and therefore to be shunned, even though it's RWD. Golf GTi's are one of God's own cars.

Yes.

Get the Golf.

i love the S13 but the golf is probably a better day to day car and be less rusty. also no turbo's to worry about going pop either and being FWD less likely to stack it IMO go golf but insure it yourself otherwise you're insurance will always seem high, and don't you dare chav it up!

i almost went for a golf GTi till i found out i could insure an MR2 turbo for £200 a year less!!!

Agreed. Go golf now, have some fun for a couple of student years, then when you are a little better off, get an S14A or import an S15.

Get the Golf, and insure it yourself. Mother's Policy isn't an option - because A. You won't be building up any no-claims, and B. You aren't a named driver - you're the main driver. It's gonna be your car, parked at your house, and driven by you.

I am currently on my own insurance anyway so it will be a matter of transferring policies.

They are replicas, not the real thing.

No idea on the manufacturer unfortunately.

They are Stil Auto Sigma alloys apparently, never heard of them myself but the rims seem to be in very good condition so I can't complain, although there is no mention of ET!

Mk2's have quite a low ET requirement don't they, around ET 20(ish)?

Oh I know what Azev A's look like and cost, it is the replicas that Remus posted that I liked.

I wouldn't get a set of real Azevs powder coated white, they cost far too much money, but a decent set of replicas would be fine.

Who said anything about powder coating them white!?

I think silver is pretty much the best colour combination with a dark metallic grey.

One bit of advice. Pay the extra and get it insured in your own name. Much cheaper in the long run.

This wouldn't be the one you pointed out on ebay a while back, would it? Just pay a bit more and get a really clean, standard one.

Heh, I don't get the Jap car thing to be honest, whereas I *do* understand the Golf GTi thing.

However, that doesn't mean I slag off cars I've not driven, cos that'd just be wrong. I also don't base my opinions on cars solely on a 5 minute ride in the passengers seat, or "having been in one once on my way to the airport"

:-p

seen an S15 down bluewater a few times, comes to the jap meet we have down there, love it! although the backend is a bit american looking. i myself would love an import integra, love the big HID headlights on it :)
