ok it couldnt last

after my indulgence into the dark side(derv) with the 405 estate and my promise not to mod i felt pretty comfy in the slippers and cardy role it affords

then shock horror

i've lost a wheel trim

instrad of actualy being seen buying a set for fear of abuse and ridicule i've decided a few tweaks wont hurt after all

anyone know how big a rim i can squeeze under the arches on the 405 estate? and can anyone suggest a supplier of lowering springs for the new derv beast :)

any wheels worth 3 times the cars value gen :) lol

cheers

Rob

aha feel the power of the derv making your wallet heavier and heavier . 6 squillion miles to the tenner rather than the novas 40 :)

My mates 405 Saloon is lowered -40mm and on 17's, and it does scrub every now and again. Of course, torsion bar at the back, so a man of your skills can probly deal with that himself ;) If you're willing to do a little chopping under the arches, 18's would go on no bother, they'd go on anyway but with a little scrubbage ;)

18s will fit with 215/35 tyres, with no scrubbing. You're looking for an offset of ET15 - avoid anything ET35, cos it's Ford fitment, not Pug.

You only need two - it's torsion beam at the rear. Lowering the torsion beam doesn't make it stiffer though, so you may well get rear scrubbage at full-travel with big rims on.

Knowing Rob's passion for the bodge, thats nothing a couple of welded solid dampers wouldn't fix. (c:

You'll get scrubbing on the front on sharp cornering with 2 people in when lowered 40mm on 17's.

The 205/40/17s are less diameter than the standard 185/65/14s - and there's more than enough clearence for the extra 2cm of width.

If Ryan's (the 405 in question) scrubs, then his springs are too soft (it's almost certainly the case that he won't have uprated springs for his heavier diesel engine), and/or his rims are the wrong offset, and/or he's not got

205/40 tyres on, and/or his suspension geometry is way out, etc. etc.
