Opinions on high miler BMW 3 series (E46)

It'll be a sample of people who've looked after their cars and hence not had any huge issues with them. Pretty much as per any other brand, really.

But I wouldn't want to let concrete evidence of them being reliable if looked after get in the way of 30 year old media hype.

Yoink! Don't let a love affair get in the way of concrete evidence either, Steve.

It's quite simple - look after one (ie. check the oil weekly and change the cambelt at 36k miles) and it'll be fine.

If you don't, then expect it to break.

There are plenty of good ones out there - it just takes some effort to find them amongst the abused examples.

Does every thread on here have to end up Alfa bashing? :)

...liking the 147 now too - is there some kind of support group I can join? Thought I'd gotten over my lust for italian cars with dubious reliability when I sold my Fiat Coupe.

It seems to be the group's only weapon against SteveH.

I think the Wops seem to make some quite sexy looking cars from time to time.

Although to be fair, my vitriol comes from work, rather than the automotive tastes of SteveH.

That's not true, they also seem to have turned into an army full of Passat bashers - which is quite surreal seeing as actually it's a pretty fine car.

And you'll get almost enough for a small round of drinks from a grand after having got the cambelt changed as well!

500 quid, max. at a specialists - and they only need doing every 60k miles.

So buy one that has a bill for it being done recently.
