You load them up using 'iTunes'. Doesn't matter where the MP3s come from, so long as you add them to the iTunes library.

HTH.

AFAIK you have to use iToss (heh, I like that).

But I could be wrong.

Erm, not it's not. It's a simple, intuitive and very efficient way of organising, ripping and sychronising your MP3 collection to a portable player.

I think there are other options, but they're s**te in comparison.

iTunes is, without doubt, *the* best riper / player / organiser you get get for your MP3 collection. Even better than that, it allows simple and efficient network sharing of the library and synchronises music with an iPod very quickly.

Anyone who doesn't like iTunes is trying to make the whole process much more complicated than it really is.

(FWIW, although I almost exclusively use Apple kit at home, my iTunes library is on a 'Shuttle' PC running XP Pro - the Windows version of iTunes is identical to the Mac version and is incredibly good - especially given that it's free)

heh.

Definitely 4. Any less is a bit shit.

You're supposed to use iTurds, and as long as you remember that deleting songs can be a bit more permanent than you imagine it to be (backup you're iTurds folder somewhere) then it'll be fine.

I like Media Monkey.

don't have a Pod yet, and the Missus's Archos XS200 is just like a HDD so it doesn't need Synching. But between ID3-tagit and Media Monkey I can tag and get Album art and rate/organise files more effectively than just file folders.

Also Media Monkey is a good desktop player as well as database/tagger/art downloader.

Before you go for the Nano, have a look at the Archos XS200/XS202/202S

Missus has one. Very nice, very small. 20gig and cheap.

Plenty of freeware/opensource options. I set up a laptop with Linux on it and GTKPod so he could use his iPod with it.

I've got a 60Gb Video - I got sick of choosing stuff, and wanted my whole music library on it.

If you get into playing with networks and having your music library on the computer, iTunes works with the £79 Airport Express to stream audio to other rooms - just plug in an amp/speakers. It can now play and stream the same track, which I'm sure is a recent chance, and I reckon it's only a matter of time before it can play one track, and stream another.

Get the 4Gb, though. Always get the highest capacity available. They keep rumouring an 8Gb Nano (which would mean it had overtaken the Mini in size and was a proper replacement for it), but it hasn't surfaced yet.

And black shows scratches like nothing else.

It asks you if you want to delete permanently in very plain english!

It's not bad, although I don't like the fact the you 'have to' use it. A better option is to use winamp and get the ml_ipod plugin, then drag stuff back and forth in the media library. Dead easy, free and doesn't require any crap to load at boot.

I got a 2GB nano, and just put on the good stuff from my collection, and there is bags of space - 30 hours at 160kbps mp3.

Get a slicone sleeve thingy, or a tube of toothpaste - it seems to be an almost perfect ipod polish :-)

Watch it doesn't snap in your pocket ;)

Long live the Mini!!!

I've had more than one person think "that's just off the iPoo though isn't it" and say yes.

I have an iRiver H320 - because it records and has radio. It does video too but the screen is hopelessly poor. For music playback only iPoo rocks.

I wanted a case, but it doesn't fit the car holder then, and I can't be arsed to keep taking it in and out of the case...
