OT ish: Pikey Bluetooth Head Unit

Does this count as a mod?

I know someone here bought the Lidl one a while ago- well, now Aldi have one for under £50. It's not half bad either. Does all you'd expect and reasonable sound quality, plus takes a USB stick or SD if MP3 is your thing. It even looks OK. There's silver (yuk) and black versions.

Only compalints? I had to take a dremel to the back of the Fabia's dash as the unit was a bit deeper than the standard one, and the wiring loom didn't have swappable power feeds- but with a small screwdriver you can ease the pins out of the supplied loom to fix that.

The music streaming from my N95 has a bit of digital background noise, but I'm not planning on using that much.

I'm music streaming using my N95 to the Blaupunkt head unit I got, it works a treat. :)

Yeah I got the lidl one. I think it was =A380, but for the money it is=20 spanking.

The Aldi one is the same as the VR3 that is all over ebay. I bought one=20 early last year for the rangie. Was just about setup when it got nicked.=20 Was =A3100 then, so the Aldi=20

This seems to be a common problem with modern Skodas, I've heard it with=20 Octavias and more featured headunits too, there is an over-engineered=20 strut to stop squeaks from the dash.=20

I like to use it when I'm using TomTom, because TomTom on my HTC Trinity=20 comes through over A2DP too. Fire up Mort player with a huge play list=20 and random play, then start TomTom. I wonder if my new Omnia will do=20 that too with Touchplayer.=20

I didn't notice the background noise in the Aero, but you get a load of=20 road noise through anyway and I'm about as far from an audiophile as you=20 can get.

I plugged my iPod into my Kenwood. USB direct, so you get all your playlists / can scroll through by artist / album.

Still need to sort out a few niggles with the Bose install, though - line levels seem to be too quiet and speaker levels are too loud.

Might have a look at the amp and see if it's worth swapping for something with adjustable gain control.

Yes, lots on Briskoda have had to hack it about. Do you still visit?

Every now and again, whenever I'm tempted by something, I'll have a read and see what is said about them.

Still good reading, and always good advice.

My mate just bought it today from Aldi, reckons it's great, all the features you'd ever need and as he's still on standard speakers sounds as good as the Pioneer it's replaced - and still a great improvement on the standard head unit s**te. He's just using a spare 2gb SD card, get's plenty of MP3s on there, and will only have to update when he wants to put some new stuff on.

Tsssk.

Does it start from where it left off when you switch it back on? (i.e. middle of a track).

Some of the other head units that Aldi/LiDL have been selling didn't...

That'd be annoying. Well it'd be ok if it started on the same track I suppose even if back at the beginning, an not in the middle or whatever, but if it just went to track 1 again that'd be well annoying. I'll ask him tmrw if I remember :-)

Yes, I know.

But it was standard on Sillyspeeds.

Bose stuff in cars always sounds really good when put next to just the normal car systems. Ok, you can spend fortunes and get more elaborate stuff, but the Bose stuff is loads better than just the normal single and crap speakers most motors in the 156 price range (new) got.

My brothers 406 Coupe had some funny wiring, (multiplexed or something) and he altered it all DIY so normal car stereo bits went in to use all the Bose speakers. Although he did change the Bose Amp and Sub for different small ones that he already had that were better.

Probably the same as mine - Blaupunkt head unit with a 'trigger' to power up the amp and an input trigger that converts the speaker outputs into line-level outputs for the amp.

Certainly not, you must fit a subwoofer at once. Also a large pipe with a K&N filter (if you can call them that as they don't filter anything) going from the front of the car in to the back of the unit. Make sure it all lights up blue and fit neons around the case.

Good value for under £50, it's a shame my standard car stereo can't do half of that and is somewhere in the region of £500, but has 6 speakers.

I don't think Chris has any, can he borrow yours?

And with that, "it's a shame my standard car stereo can't do half of that and is somewhere in the region of £500, but has 6 speakers" - I know you're lying, because you obviously have a City Rover Solo which you bought brand new, and it has a tape player. The fact the face comes off doesn't really make it worth any more money though I'm afraid :-( At least your manual windows will keep your arm nice and fit for when you go dogging though, so that's nice isn't it :-)

No, your standard stereo is somewhere in the region =A330 cobbled together= =20 by an underfed overworked 3 year old in the shadow of the Birdnest.

The fact you were charged =A3500 seperatly for it by a franchise dealer=20 rather than it being bundled into the base price shows you are stupid.
