Yeah i've done it before now but never a complete restoration although I am planning one.
What do you want to know?
Yes. It is a real pain in the arse. Like washing your car 100 times in a row.

Yup. My advice? Get them sandblasted first. Oh and stove enamelling cracks easily.
After sandblasting (I assume you get this done professionally) what materials do you then need to paint a car? What would you use to cover the area you don't want to get painted eg windows etc.
How many coats of paints have you guys used when doing a paint job? Do you use a certain colour as a base coat? And have you just done one colour for the car, or have you done anything special? Rally Design, flames down the sides etc.

90% of painting a car is preparation or 5 years down the road, possibly less, you will realise why most people stick with a factory finish and why a proper paint job costs at least £1.2k
It cannot be done cheaply unless you have access to the equipment and someone experienced lending a hand, matt/satin are the easiest to start off with but even pro jobs can be "patchy". You will understand if you ever see a matt black car in the flesh.
Its a lot cheaper if you dad is a professional sprayer with weekend work garage access ;)
