ping alistair the alpinatwat...

Had a ride in a D3 today. Now I hate Alpina because they've made a car I can both almost afford to buy and almost afford to run.

Like it? Lots?

By all accounts they've combined 330 performance with 320d economy.

Still saving for a B5 myself, blatastic though the B10 remains... :)

E39 D10s, with effectively the current 535d motor, are getting pretty affordable now - all LHD tho'.

No cruise, no auto, no parking sensors. But it looks so much better than the similar priced 320d sport and goes so much harder.

They certainly have - he'd had it a day and done 300 miles on half a tank. Alpina have some stupid 1200 mile running in reccomendation (4500 rpm /

85mph) but it had mid range pull, huge overtaking ability, and ride quality that was unbelievable considering the 19" classics and grip.

Yeah, only thing that ruins the D3 for me is no cruise, not sure if you can retro fit it without getting an aftermarket kit. It's laggy too, but life's about comprimises I suppose!

I think you can have cruise, but you have to pay a bizarre "non-standard" suppliment before you _start_ paying for the extras.

Auto is a no-no at least for rhd.

ALPINA seem to have the ride/handling (what)compromise nailed... :)

Be interesting to see what the next B3 will be; sequential turbo I6 or supercharged V8.

ALPINA seem unwilling to deny either... =8)

Twin turbo I6 diseasel? Though I suppose it'll be pitched against the M3 so it'll have to be 400bhp+ (the new 335 is 300+). Unless the new V8 is ultra-light I'd go for a stretched i6 turbo.

Nope, petrol bi-turbo using a D10/535d style sequential set-up - zero lag, massive grunt - or the same 500bhp V8 as the B5/B7.

M3 is slated to be a V8 so fit is no problem...

Indeed - don't forget the 335 petrol (3.0 I6 twin turbo) is already coming (see

formatting link
) so an uprated version of that - standard is 300 odd bhp, 400 should be enough...
