Ping: Skinny Doug

I'll be happy to abuse anyone who randomly turns up with a credit card build, MaxTosser, modded motor. Of course they're welcome to post here, but it will be a joyous occasion when the launch their rattles after a bit of abuse from the regulars.

I've stopped doing stuff myself, 'cos my idea of fun isn't crawling around under a car on my drive. My local mechanic charges not a huge amount more than my hourly rate, so I'll let him do the dirty stuff.

I note Ken can't actually think of anything bad about Passats, 156s, 75s or VFRs. He also has very little knowledge of the Chinese bike scene, too.

If he knew what he was talking about, he'd know that the mechanical bits are all Honda licensed designs, so I can get engine and electrical bits from any Honda dealer. The rest of the bits are catered for by a few of the big importers.

As for mods, the 75 has had Koni shocks and springs on the rear, and I have a pair of new Gabriel gas shocks ready to go on the front, but restoration is more important than modding at the moment.

I do actually know quite a bit about Chinese bike stuff.........I deal with an importer of the bikes. Some of the stuff is not bad quality, but a lot of it is complete crap (eg: new fork legs with flash chrome, rusting while in storage).

All Alfa stuff is fine when its working, but is not reliable, and has very expensive and difficult to get hold of parts.

You seem to want to rip the piss out of someone who clearly has a good idea of what they are doing, and has spent 5 yrs on modifying a car, but freely admit to paying someone else to work on your own std repmobiles............whay is that I wonder?

My forks don't have chrome.

Do you want to stick with the lies about knowing a Chinese importer, or would you like to retract that statement?

Funny, that. Parts aren't hard to get hold of. I haven't needed many, so can't really comment on prices - but the bits I have needed haven't been any more expensive than they are for any other car.

He didn't 'have a good idea' of what he was doing - he presented a car and a credit card to someone who did.

I pick my mods. carefully, don't spend a year's take-home on 'em, and let my local mechanic do the work for many reasons. One of which is that I'd prefer to be out riding one of the bikes than crawling around under a car. I've been there and done that when I was poor. I no longer have to, but I still choose my mods carefully. 'Stu' must have spent about £35k all-in. You can buy a proper car and have some sensible mods done for that kind of money.

Strange that your fork stanchtions arent chromed...............the quality of your bike must be worst than other Chinese stuff I have seen!

And looks like Alfa parts must have got a lot easier to get hold of and cheaper over the last couple of years, as the guy I know who used to run an Alfa workshop always seemed to have a lot of trouble getting parts, which were always expensive.

Finally seems you are unable to do anything much in the way of carrying out mods yourself, but I guess as the best mod for an Alfa involves a can of petrol and a box of matches, that wont matter a great deal!

Steve H - Your correct in the fact that I didn't know what I was doing as no one even pug specialists could do what I wanted. As for being someone who needs to get everything done on a credit card is almost as crap as an Alfa. My mate owns Stealth Systems and due to the fact I have paid next to no labour I have been involved in all the work done on my car. Yes I may have only stripped the whole engine down on my own and was not able to do the blueprint work myself. Also having wired up most of the electrics but sadly not being able to use the laptop and specialist program to set it up. This was probably down to the fact I had to drive at the same time and my 3rd & 4th arms had just fell off. But then you said you now pay so you don't have to get dirty anymore! How credit card is that? Oh and I nearly forgot you said 'I pick my mods carefully' and don't waste time. It must be really hard looking at an Alfa mag and seeing what someone else has already used before, carefully selecting it with your credit card. Yes and I spent loads of money on my only a poor pug, but don't you ever wish you had tried something different in your life than slag people off and drive a slightly modded Alfa, whilst talking about cars you will never have. Any non vision credit card man can go and buy a decent car and by off the shelf mods for it with no knowledge of modding or pushing what can be done. If everyone was so sad where do you think your off the shelf bits would have come from. We would all still be driving round in cars with a K&N and a janspeed exhaust, bragging about our extra 6% power increase. Ever seen the program pinks? It would be an interesting concept in your Alfa, or whatever you are crrently driving. Laters Stu

Yup, I'm with the new boy on this. I don't get people that stand in a modding group saying 'just buy something else'. Modding the car is a hobby - it's no more a waste of money than any other hobby - like people that own bikes purely for weekend fun etc. Hobby's are all really a waste of money, they're just for something to do, that you're interested in.

I could never understand this one myself, the idea that if you don't arse about doing everything on your car yourself, that if you prefer to let someone who knows what they are doing sort it out, it means you can't be capable of loving it as much ?

What the *f*ck* is that about.

And as for this example... I mean seriously, how many of your average Joes out there are mechanically know how to build a 500bhp car ffs.

I don't do my own work either. I used to, but these days I just don't have the time or the inclination, I'd much rather hand my car over to someone who does that sort of thing for a living, knowing that he will make a far better job of it than I will.

In news: snipped-for-privacy@news.ntlworld.com, Lordy.UK wittered on forthwith;

Having been involved in building a few interesting motors, and having paid for a few engines to be built, I have to say I prefer the technique of paying someone to do the job when possible when it comes to the more complex mechanical items.

To me, it seems insane to complain about people spending money to build something they want. Ok, sometimes what they want and what they end up with can be wildly different, but at least they're having a go.

Of course, if someone comes in wanting to build something that will be an ill-handling, unreliable, chunk of s**te I'll either advise against it, suggest an alternative, or buy the said chunk of s**te.

I still think 500+ bhp is optimistic, and I suspect pretty bloody horrific to drive in a FWD car, but it's not the worst thing I've seen pics of in 'ere, far from it.

Is "Stealth Systems" the company that has a unit behind "BSA Regal", who make stainless exhausts?

Me, a lot more, and Emperor Hirohito of Japan owned 3 Skoda Superbs. And it was them that kickstarted Japan as a car making country. They had small isolated manufacturers. But Hirohito wanted luxury. He could have bought Rolls, or Bentley, or Cadillac, but instead he chose Skoda. Had them stripped, crated and disassembled.

They were studdied then re-assembled in Japan and became the royal car fleet, and formed the quest for ever improving car specs that the japanese have been obsessed with.

While the UK was happy with 4 gears, vinyl seats and windey windows, the jap models had cloth, five gears or decent autos, and on better models leccy windows and on some, aircon.

And VW had nothing to do with it.

I actually had to manually copy and paste this, because your last message was part of my signature when you posted.

You appear to be too dim to understand that. I understand you have an obsession with money, LED washer jets and exhaust pipe trims. I understand you are deluded enough to think you can make a difference to a legal case. I understand you get a sick buzz from making a sick buzz. You are nothing but backround interference. You don't even rate on the radar. We only respond to give you a sense of self worth. We wouldn't want you to think you were un-noticed and then go an do something more radical but altogether more stupid to get yourself noticed.

We are humouring you. Any laughter though is at you, not with you. I wonder if you really have the 2 braincells necessary to rub together to generate enough heat for a truly new idea. I worry that your mother dropped you on your head once to often. I think perhaps you really don't beleive all those socks that you post under are you. I think you truly believe each one is a seperate and humorous identity. I do seriosuly consider that you must have a legitimate multiple personality disorder. No normal person could keep track of it so well without overlap, only someone seriously disturbed and in need of treatment could manage that.

Please don't be offended by this Chris. I say these things because I care, and you need help.
