and it's getting more tempting by the minute to bung a twin turbo Rover lump in it... now where did I see that 350 Chevy crank???

Most probably, but I only need the crank in order to do the famous "Dr Pete

5.2 Rover Turbo" conversion.

According to the chassis plate (tally), it's a "Daventry MS COS +S/R" shell. According to the receipt from Ford Motorsport who supplied the shell it's a "Cosworth 3door shell, reinforced, with sunroof".

Not a sticker, a chassis plate. Slightly different thing.

From what I can gather, it's the Sierra XR4x4 VC diff and driveshafts with the CWP out of something like a 2.3 Diesel Estate Sierra. As I've only had the car since Monday and haven't actually driven it yet due to the fibre timing wheel in the V6 being knackered I'm only going off what I've been told / can remember from conversation with the guy who built it. However, I do remember being in this car over the years and remembering it being very very long geared. 70 mph at around 2000 rpm.

However, UKRCM will always have its share of people who know better just by guesswork ;-)

don't sell it then :)

the dif out of the 2.3 will be a 3.36:1 the diff out of the (only avaiable in sweden in the form of a) 2.8 V6 rwd estate is a 3.14:1 you should have a 7.5 inch diff, measuered carefully with a bit of string round the teeth of the crown wheel :)

47 teeth on the crown wheel 15 teeth on the pinion seeing as i paid LOTS of good money for the only one i could find after searching for 3 years, i would say that you need to either keep this car or at least let me have a little ride in it :)

get some steel timing gears if you want to keep the car ;)

Not planning on it ;)

I shall ask bloke who built it when I see him (should be today actually)

only if I keep the 2.8i in it, and that's unlikely ...

Lets face it, a P6 lump will cost me about £150 complete, SD1 Vitesse geabox about £100 (and I know where these bits are already), the turbos I already have , prop should only be about £30, bellhousing I'll try and wangle when buying the motor, exhaust is already mainly there with the Sierra being a V6, it's got the Koni's and the funky back axle, so it's just a case of a day mucking about removing the V6 and placing the V8 in, making up the mounts for the motor and box, remounting the anti roll bar and measuring up the prop for cutting / welding etc, wiring's no problem, downpipes should be easy, I'll try and get away with using the 2.8i radiator for now. From what I've been told by the Burgerman the speedo cable should fit the rover box. The tacho is easily sorted, so it's mainly time to make the thing, and a spot of cutting, welding and plumbing. Not doing it in the winter though, mainly because the Sierra has a working heater (the golf doesn't), so I'll pop the 2.8i back in while I make everything. Almost tempted to twin turbo the V6 while I'm doin the V8 up.... Anyone got a clue as to how to supply the extra fuel and control the timing on a turbo V6 on the cheap? I'm thinking there must be a way of getting the cold start injector to squirt in more fuel.. but for the timing... Hmm.

I'm just wondering how hard it'd be to turbo a 3.9... it's the management side of things that could be a problem I imagine.

wangle

the 2.8 will sort the feuling out on it's own you just ned a saab dizzy to do the sparking or something along those ilnes as it's got a bigger spark unit or soemthing and more adavnce i'll ask about the control units you need but ou can get something to just sort the ingnition side of things and away you go :)
