Re: To the chav in the Integra Type R this afternoon

Anybody can drive fast in a straight line.

In the Integra, depending on the age, it takes some skill to get close to maximum acceleration. If you miss-time your gear changes it becomes materially less then proper quick... :)

Heh.

It was a new shape one, if that makes any difference (Based vaguely on the last shape Civic coupe?)

It wasn't that he was caught in the wrong gear, he just didn't have the skills required to make it round the roundabout at any reasonable speed.

I entered said (fairly large) roundabout a fair distance behind him, went up the inside, and was level as we exited onto a 2 lane road.

As soon as he saw I was level, and gaining, he floored it.

I caught him on the next roundabout. Again.

Then he proceeded to hold me up down the twisty single-carriageway stretch into the village, where he continued at 40+ mph in a 30 limit.

Gotcha. They're beautiful to drive, though, absolutely beautiful.

Heh. It really isn't hard in the Integra. In the try, steer. In the wet, mild braking, steer, more power. I'm not going to put that they're foolproof but they have such superb handling and grip that really anybody with any interest or ability whatsoever could drive it quickly...

Clearly, we have a Muppet here.

Then again was it on silly wheels? Replacing the wheels for silly big heavy ones is reckoned to utterly ruin the handling...

Hmmm, I *think* they were white, and didn't look too big.

But I couldn't say for sure. When we were level, I could see straight over the top of his car.....

15s as I recall, lovely and lightweight. No need for bigger wheels... :)

Black pearl? I thought you'd ordered that horrid shiny hearing aid colour.

Richard (har har, your car is "Black Pearl". I expect it to handle like a boat, Arrrr).

Heh. I didn't actually order this one - I took one from the fleet as it had quite a few extras that I'd otherwise have had to fund out of my own pocket.

Most people don't have a clue, I can out corner the majority of boy racers when I'm driving the 2.5 tonne lardy, wobbly 4xFord.

Stick a 17TGD badge on it, just to really confuse them :-)

Aye, cooking model Ford engines have been very average (or 's**te' in a lot of people's books) as far as power output (and/or economy) were concerned for ages. And are only just coming up to scratch.

Like you say, the older 2 litre engines weren't all that great, when PSA had some quite decent 1.9s kicking about, and Alfa had had their 150bhp Twinspark engines for ages (as I'm sure SteveH will mention at some point :-)), and even going on around a decade from that - take something like a 1.8 Zetec - decent engine - massive improvement over older Pintos and CVHs, but still not especially powerful or economical.

Re: your BX - it probably had the slightly detuned version of the 8v GTi lump.

Or possibly even exactly the same, come to think of it - if it was the TZi or RZi model (auto or manual) then it's got 125bhp - exactly the same peak power as the GTi [1]. TZS, TRS and 4x4 models all had less (105 or 107bhp).

Older. I had a 19TRS (I had one hatchback and nearly bought an estate), a 16RE, and a GTi 4x4 (different to the 4x4 estate, which wasn't a GTi).

I'm trying to remember if I had others. ISTR having a Series 1 16RS, with the proper dashboard in, and I nearly bought a Series 1 19TRS, but it failed the MOT on a rotten crossmember.

But surely the fact that you used to be a works race driver for Jaguar, gives you quite a bit of an advantage over the average chav, driving the sort of spammed up old banger owned by those posting on this forum?

The only badges on the back are 'Citroen', '16 Valve' and 'ABS', so it doesn't really give much clue as to what it is anyway (unless you know your BXs, in which case you'll know what it is anyway). When I can be bothered I might take them all off actually and just leave the chrome 16v badges on the C-pillars, reckon that would look a lot better, especially since the rear badges are a bit faded anyway.

Now if I put an Mi16 badge on the back, all the idiots would know what it was :)

Oh do f*ck off you tedious bore. Carl's BX is probably the quickest one of the lot out of the factory, and thanks to weighing close on bugger all, is probably amongst the best value cars around in terms of performance per pound spent. As standard.

Are they just stuck on or do they like old dubs have pins that you would need to fill the holes for?

I'm pretty sure they're just stuck on but I'll double check before ripping them off :)

Luckily not :)

You could always look for some NOS[1] ones not that I know what NOS supplies are like for Citroens.
