Elder gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:
Stop. Please. I'm trying very hard to persuade myself I don't need it.
They certainly do.
Now imagine it losing even more of that excessive weight and needless complexity, by replacing the Dyane body with Mehari tupperware... Oh, yes. That will be fun when I get it on the road. I doubt it'll be north of 450kg. 60bhp, plus whatever the megasquirt'll give...

Well known Citroen specialist Graham Harper up here in Glasgow built one years ago. His had the 4 clyinder engine and it was also turbocharged .
They called it an Ami Super Duper.
Then there was Steve Cropley's turbocharged 2CV. I still remember the headline in Motor after it incinerated itself on the Motorway. 'Escargot Flambe.'

I've not heard of that one. I know a mate of mine from the IoM had a supercharged four-pot 2cv - that was just silly. He covered 105 miles of M6 in an hour in it after he'd put water injection in - was gettin
1200degF exhaust manifold temps before...I do occasionally look at the Mehari and wonder about a Mini Cooper supercharger. Then I remember that it's going to be utterly lethal without.
It was CAR - and they rebuilt it. The fire wasn't even directly related to the turbo. It was the usual cause - knackered cardboard heater tubes.

And to think I sat and deliberated about what magazine I had read that in.... Sir, I salute your clearly expert levels of Anorakdom on the subject if Citroens ;-)
Other than an old BX with the rotating drum type speedo and an S1 XM, I know nothing of Citroens.

Want. Badly. My brother has a 2CV with the same motor, unfortunately it's in a state of sheddiness in the garage at the moment. It went like stink when it was road legal and MOT'd. He also had a "hybrid" 2CV van with a
1299cc motor in it. Not quite as quick but would hold a 90mph cruise on the motorway.I wonder if the missus would view it as child-friendly enough? Hmm I also have the cash from the MX-5 burning a hole...

It was car magazine IIRC, 1987 or thereabouts. I think I still have that very issue in among all the boxes of crap in our loft. Didn't the heater tubes come loose on a motorway run and cause the fire, like most 2CV fires?

What was the other one that wasn't a mehari? Pony? Like a mehari, but squarer and less well built? IIRC it was Romanian. My mate had one in Greece. It was a total shed and the body was rotten to f*ck. He lived in the posh bit of Northern Athens - Ekali. It was named and badged as the "Ekali Ferrari". We had a lot of fun with that car. It became main transport for beach parties, loaded up with booze, people and tents. Surprising what weight 602cc will pull for 30 miles over the mountains even if it was a bit slow.

Yup, the Pony. Steel panelled, built in Greece by Namco. VERY well named.
There was a pile of similar - FAF, Baby-Brousse - for various bits of third world.

What's the power to weight likely to be? 65bhp doesn't sound a lot but I bet it weighs nothing as well...

The cornering will be fairly impressive to watch as well.
The Renault 6 I had for a first car always managed to scare the shit out of anyone who went in it and presumed it was about to roll when pushed hard. ;-)

Not as much so as you'd think. The Ami Super had uprated springs and anti- roll bars both ends - the suspension's basically set up for a c.800kg car with a higher CoG and roughly similar power.

If it's been set up right with all the Ami anti-rollbar it should corner really well and without much roll as the Ami was heavier. My brother's van didn't have a ARB and rolled *alarmingly* when making progress. The car he has now hardly leans at all, but it's much lighter with a lower CoG. I'll be putting back on the road in May. Blame Dan. I've been waiting for our kid to sort it out for ages so I can use it, so f*ck it, I'll do it myself and have some fun with it.
When I was at college up North, my friend had an R4 which he put on it's side doing handbrake turns.

When it is, bring it over this way, and have a look at the Mehari.
What did he expect? The handbrake's at the wrong end, after all.

I drove a 2CV for a short while when doing some work on it and going from an AH sprite road legal roller skate it was enough to start to make one sea sick.
