A sports car enthusiast who suffered a mini stroke while restoring a Lotus Espirit was amazed when online friends finished the work for him in secret.

He obviously wasn't a UKRCMer. : ) Funnily enough I ended up catching up with Fishman who turns out to be a really nice guy. He mentioned he was having top gear withdrawls so I had him and his missus over for a Top Gear marathon on the projector. He was truly chuffed.

Is it an optical illusion or is the guy really really tall?

I know sports cars are generally low to the ground but the top of the Lotus (in the bottom picture) barely reaches the guys waist.

He must be at least 6' 10".

Peter's right, the guy is nearly 7' tall.

What a heartwarming story.

As for the esprit, I stood next to one at Hethel before trying to belt an Elise round the track and it reached just under armpits, and I'm 5 foot 5.

I'm rolling about laughing here. Would you go on the BBC to talk about your sexually transmitted disease?

In which case he won't be able to get into a Lotus Esprit. I can't and I'm 'only' 6'3".

They may well be nice people.

But, really, £25k spunked on an Esprit? I know classic ownership is rarely about the finances involved - but you'd get an absolute minter for a hell of a lot less than that.

Elaborate? (I'm not medically trained myself!)

He has Reiter's disease (mentioned in the article). I used to work in clinical rheumatology, the study of the rheumatic diseases, Reiter's disease is a form of arthritis which is sexually transmitted. No one is really sure what the causative organism is, it could be Chlamydia or possibly a virus associated with Chlamydia infections.

Mostly it happens after a dose of NSU or sometimes an infection in the colon.

I knew a bloke in Gloucester who got it, and there were several medics among his mates. He wandered into the pub one day and said loudly "I've been told I don't have arthritis, I have Reiter's disease and it can be cured with antibiotics." and wondered why everyone in the pub burst out laughing.

TBH I wasn't criticising you at all.

I don't do forums. But thanks for the invite.

Did anyone say it wasn't?

That's life.

you know what would have been better ..

if you had the bottle to just say " look ok the std comment was a little out of order" and offer an apology

nt every sufferer of this disease/ syndrome ahs developed it due to an std, not by any means. also if you say yu have studied it, you will know just how bad acute cases can be, by way of the sufferes legs, jints hands head becoming so bad that the skin legions and if untreated necrosis can resemble leprosy.

takes two second to think before you post, as for your thats life comment i guess brimstone is right.

It wasn't incorrect, was it? Although it may be in your case. And I'm not in any way denigrating or denying the severity of the disease, I've seen it first hand.

If you want an apology, I'm sorry to have offended you. However if you read what I wrote it's not an attack on you or your friends which is what you seem to have taken it as.
