the seller. She thinks it is a full pressure turbo (has the APC gauge).Leather is perfect and roof is about 9 months old, working and no rips. Except nothing is ever as good as it seems. No history but the friend she bought it off "used to really look after=20 it". It occasionally jumps out of 3rd when you give it stick. My old one did=20 that. There is some rust bubbling along the bonnet edge (doesn't say front or=20 sides) but not broken though.

Says she wants about =A31800. For that age, spec, model even with the=20 unknown history, that is a good price, as long as it runs as well as she=20 reckons. Probably about =A3800 to get a secondhand box from a non turbo fitted=20 (same box, less likely to have been stressed). But it could simply be=20 shifter adjustment, or engine mounts.

They normally sell for about =A32500-=A35k even with those miles on.

Yes of course. My name is Charlie and I always Ebay under the name Jannette selling things from my second home on the wrong side of the Pennines.

that has got to be one of the most stupid things anyone could possibly have said on here. But then you're fairly new so I won't make too big a thing of it.

You equally may have missed that I've been looking for a buyer for my CELICA, that I've been looking to buy another SAAB, as I sold my last SAAB to by the CELICA, and have considered it one of the worst mistakes I could have made.

Why don't you buy something else? Rather than re-visit familiar ground, is there anything else you fancy?

If you've never owned a saab you'll never understand, sometimes even I dont :-)

My neighbours must think I'm nuts - saab after saab, only broken by the occasional sierra or citroen :-)

One area you must check/prod is the front chassis area - I've seen a couple of otherwise mint looking examples with rather severe rust on the o/s driveshaft aperture/lower A-arm area....collects a lot of shit here which rots the thing out.

What actually kills it is unloading the lower wishbones without the proper tool. You do that to properly check for play in the ball joints, replacing ball joints, or compressing the spring before clamping them for removal and it involves placing a specially shaped wedge/spacer onto a small bent over braced platform. If it isn't quite the right shape, it loads the wrong areas, and eventually it tears the metal and leads to tin worm getting in.

My last 900 needed it doing by my choice of specialist, after the last owners choice of specialist chose the wrong way to do it.

Amen. I know all the things I hated about that car. But they were the same things I loved. And after seeing the Celica engine bay, and working out what I needed to remove just take the spark plugs out (about 40 mins on and off with the intercooler cover, pipework and intercooler). Same thing to check the dizzy cap/rotor, same thing + the throttle body and the egr/idle control fittings etc to get the cam cover off, I crave the wide open spaces of the Saab engine bay. Changing the clutch is an engine out, or at least a partial drop and seperation. On the Saab, you remove and cover. If you are unlucky you need to drain the coolant.

Things I disliked, awkward to set and keep adjusted front handbrake, fat front (although I loved that too), slightly too sit up and beg driving position, although that has grown on me since I found the Celica seat doesn't go that upright, and the big bus steering wheel, although there was always the option of locating a Carlsson or other momo steering wheel.

Would like leather this time, but only if I can get aircon that works (or can be serviced), or a convertable (and preferably that should have aircon too for those damp sticky summer days).

I've driven various small hatches. Didn't like or couldn't drive. I do like the MK2 Punto, but they are still too pricey for my budget and=20 still ideally they need all the work to be garage done to keep the=20 resale price. Old Alfas are nice but either rot or breakdown, and the dealer parts are=20 pricey or deleted, but make up for it on those few times that don't (not=20 having a go steve, it's the character that makes them what they are),=20 New Alfas cost too much. and again still need dealer servicing to retain=20 what value they keep.

Volvo are OK, but "look" big, will upset the missus, and Apart from the=20 T5-R estates, in my price bracket all look a Wardrobey (I made that up).

Fords I would like I can't afford, or you just can't get (RS200, RS=20 Cosworth 500, Escort RS1800, Escrot Cosworth), other ones I just don't=20 like too much. My brother is a pretty much dyed in the wool Ford man=20 trading in his recently bought older 3 series and =A32k for a recent=20 Mondeo, so I've seen enough of them.

I like Jap cars for their reliability, but when things start to go, they=20 may keep running until the last rattle, but you never exactley know when=20 that might be because they just keep on chugging. It might be next week=20 at 147k miles, or it might be another 10 years after being nursed with=20 weekly oil changes past the quarter of a million, and hardly being=20 capable of making boost, but still running. And once you start needing=20 to replace parts on a Jap car, things start to get expensive. Have you=20 ever done a full home service where the items cost over =A3200 and all you= =20 got from the dealers was a thermostat that needed changing, so you did=20 it at the same time as changing the coolant.

The Skodas were excellent, the Estelle was great fun, but a cheapy that=20 had gone a bit too far, the Favorit was the ultimate budget shopping=20 trolley, but was really boring to drive and had lousy handling ( I even=20 drove it to Norwich with Bucket seats, and tarmac rallys practice=20 setting shocks). it never missed a beat sat at motorway speeds all the=20 way without trouble, but boring, dear god.

The Saab was the ultimate, but I didn't know it until it was gone. for=20 what I paid for the Celica, buying and sorting, I could have gotten the=20 oil cooler leak fixed, sorted the worn engine mounts (which I reckonw as=20 causing the gearshift problem), done the springs, got the body work=20 patched up in the few scabby bits, and had aircon retro fitted and gone=20 for decent ebay leather interior. The Saab had lots of little bits=20 needed. I've done far bigger bits on the Celica unfortunatley.

I like it !

No bids yet though - it looks tidier than usual in that colour with that interior and those rims, so it may well go for silly money on eBay. Offer her dosh for an instant sale !

Do it man !

She has said she is looking for =A31800. BTW, those wheels in 17" don't exist. Unless she has the only set.

Will probably cost about =A31k to have either the current box rebuilt, or= =20 a known good second hand box fitted, checked with some of the Saabscene=20 guys.

1990 G is one of the weird years. It has a stronger box than the earlier=20 ones, but weaker than the last ones, and the internals are unique. You=20 can bolt a later box in instead striaght on, or you can bolt an earlier=20 box in, if you swap the shift rod/linkage.=20

Jumping out of third might be a shagged box. It might also be a badly=20 adjusted linkage, or a broken/worn engine mount. Even after=20 driving/looking and examining, there isn't anyway to know without trying=20 the cheap stuff first.

Going rate on Ebay for these is about =A33-3500 Going rate in the real world is =A32500-7k. From basic injection models=20 without leather cruise and body kit upwards.

Biggest worry to me is, she says there is some rust bubbling below the paint on the passenger side.

But none of the photos show the passenger side. just how bad is it. Odeuardo grey is rare in this country anyway, and clean rust free bonnets are even rarer in any colour.

But I do love the Grey body, grey leather, anthacite wheels, somehow looks even better than black, black, silver wheels.

Any bodyshop can sort that out for a small fee, as long as it's not serious-structural-death rust.

Yeah, it looks really good ! Get over to her house, and check it out with your own eyes.

You kidding right. Monte Carlo Yellow is rare for a reason, it is a special edition. but only a few "Special" people bought it. I think I could look hetrosexual driving black or grey with dark interior, but bright sunflower yellow is a bit too much. And I do like the Aero kits, it makes a 2/3 door 900.
