Today's update from DanB

Heard from Dan earlier - he seems to have managed 4 laps of the 'ring today.

Reckons he broke 10 minutes on the last lap.

Again, I got the impression he was enjoying himself.

10 mins! - didn't that German bint do it in about 10 mins in a transit van on top gear once?

Yeah, but she's done 10,000 laps of the place, you'd think she'd know the best line to take by now. Dan's still learning. Plus he has to consider the fact that he'd be looking at an expensive repair bill plus compensation to the 'ring for lost track time/income should he stack his car...

Although reviewing that, 'bill me in 12 months time' could be the answer, like someone said yesterday ;)

I hope he did. I'll be able to wind one of the guys at work up then. He managed 10.46 a week ago in his Elise...

One can loose all his money in Monaco even quicker. In the litteral sense of the word: it takes but a dice to roll :-)

I was there (Casino Monte Carlo) with a friend some years back and had a smart plan to beat the bank (playing roulette).

It worked! After four hours of hard work we had gained the equivalent of

160 french francs (just enough to buy some drinks at the bar) and the play started to bore us.

Because we had close to nothing and didn't want to wait for changing the chips, Peter placed all our winnings on the 26. We stood up, the ball rolled... 26!!! 36 x 160 french francs!! Our accomodation for the night just became far smarter :-)

May Dan have the 26 at his side!

About £3, innit?

nope, thinking backwards with the exchange rates then: about 600 UKP.

Please keep in mind that then I went for a week on holiday and spent 50=20 UKP (all on the cheapest wine possible)

Ah, those were the days and in fact: they still are :-)

For clarification, I was in the ten's :-) Somewhere between 10 and 11 minutes, don't think I actually broke 10 mins. I did the 3rd lap without my mates in the car (one was scared, one felt sick) and it was loads quicker, but the ESP tried to kill me on the Carrussel (?sp) by cutting all the power and flashing the light a lot, letting me slide out to the edge of the track before letting me power on again - so that was a seriously close one hehe.

Well done.

Do we get a full trip report sometime?

Hehe yea when I've read all the new posts, I'll right one up. One point which I'm sure you're aware of - Monaco - what an absolute dump!

It's almost amusing that I managed to do over 2,600 miles, including the ring, and many, many insane mountain passes without a single drama or any damage - got 20 miles from home and hit a hare on the A64 at about ~80mph, smashing my foglight out *threw* my arch liner heh! So, new foglight, new arch liner required... Hoping it can still be attached as there is possible broken clips on the bumper. D'oh! But hey, could've been worse...
