Underclocking my tuning box...

The 216, the Rallye and this particular Golf, ITYF.

Given I must have had something like 130 cars since I passed my test, I can see how the maths above are accurate.

Yes, it's easy to get a bunch of fuckwits to agree.

And once again you display your ignorance of the difference between libel and insult.

Wasn't it you that also risibly asserted that a clapped out Astra was a decent car?

You're forgetting the Nova GTE, unless that was a different Jack.

Oh yeah... that one as well, but I'm pretty sure that's it in terms of threatening of taking to the track in something to prove a point.

What's probably a bit more disturbing given how long ago I owned that, is you appear to be stalking me. ;-)

No disprespect, stop sidestepping the point Mr Bunt - if you're so sure I've libelled you, I *want* you to pursue me through the courts to prove I've cast a shadow over the good name you carry around these parts.

I won't hold my breath, because as usual you've engaged mouth before brain.

In fact maybe I ought to look into launching a case regarding the libel that is 'I libelled you'.

Or rather I would... if I was you. ;-)

That's nearly all the cars you've admitted owning on here (c: Apart from a leggy old blue Mondeo TD...

Did you you think moving all the way out there to Acapulco would stop me?

Not quite... you don't really want me to do the maths, do you? :-P

I suspect you've already done some maths, and are waiting to fire them at me at any moment. I don't care, and I maintain that whenever you talk about a car on mods, it seems like you're telling someone it's the greatest thing since nudey magazines or threatening to beat someone 'cross country' in a race.

I know you've owned a lot of cars.

And I've pointed out that had my intention been to sue you, I would not discuss it here.

If you could point to where I threatened to sue you?

I look forward to the interesting idea of someone trying to sue for libel of a usenet alias.

Don't forget that the "cross country" then turns into a challenge to do the cross country on a track .

One wonders why if they are so great that they last for such a short time.

Last time I stopped for fuel on a motorway, was at about 5:30 in the afternoon on the M1, and I reckon it took about 5 minutes at the absolute most. Pull in, fill car, pay, leave...

Fair points, the 75 probably less draggy though? Although, no doubt my 400 less ccs and 2 less cylindars helps heh.

Well, I'm out of the game till at LEAST March :-) But Scarborough way for me.

I haven't actually, bar 4 cars out of 130ish is not as you implied earlier 'almost all of them'.

I like my car... and I've liked previous cars I've owned, but accept that *all* of them have their bad points.

Indeed, if I did ever get the Golf near a track, it's the brakes if anything that would let it down IME, as whilst they're pretty good for normal fastish road use, they don't fare so well with prolonged, sustained abuse.

However... if I state something about my car, and someone else says 'ah, you're talking s**te', I'm happy if needs be, to prove the point.

It's nothing to do with willy waving (which is the point it would appear you're trying to make).

It's everything to do with being confident enough in what I've claimed, to be prepared to back it up.

I'm down in Kent... hmm... we need a track that offers trackdays somewhere in the Midlands I reckon - as a 'club', we'd probably get it at a discounted rate.

All those in favour, say 'aye'.

If it's anything like the Golfs I had the brakes will be downright dangerous. The Syncro in particular although driving it in Switxerland probably didn't help. It's the only car I've had where I've had cause to think about using a run-off gravel trap on the motorway. I came down the Jura from Freiburg towards Geneva and the third application of the brakes... nothing. Or nothing worth speaking of. I slowed it in gear, but I already had it in third, so it wasn't like I was belting downhill.

The GL brkaes were never good, in fact on a drive around Cheshire I was convinced they had failed because I braked for a corner and the car didn't slow at all. "No sir, they all do that." Was what they said at the garage.

If you can wait till September - winter tracktime is cheaper, and I'll have something a bit more fruity ;-)

That was down to dodgy LHD to RHD conversions on MkI and MkII cars. They fixed it for later marks.

They're not the only car to have suffered from such a crap conversion in the 80s, though.
