Vaux RWD bellhousings

anyone confirm exactly what gearbox i need for a 2l 16v XE engine(late model blacktop not ecotec) and red top engines

investigating this lump further as its easy enough to get my hands on one and much cheaper than a decent BMW 6 cylinder lump and prolly less hassle to fit the bugger lol

carlton fit - what people use in mantas omega should fit as well, after all you can bolt an F20/F28 to an ecotec lump and the V6 engines.

Smaller engined Carltons (crap ratios though). New Ally Bellhousing to type9 (£300-ish) Best bet is the 'box from a 1.8 Manta, nice ratios and strong. Don't get a 'box from a 2.0l though, the hole for the starter is on the wrong side ;)

the type 9 would probably be the better option plrnty availability of the old fordy box's :)

I've got a Carlton gearbox going spare. You probably won't want it though, as it's from a TD model and the gearing is very high (2000 rpm @ 70mph!)

Probably depends a lot on the final drive....

... however it'd be cool with a V8 running turbos and nitrous!

What is the Carlton suspension setup? Just wondering? Because if it is halfway decent, it might suit someone as donor parts for a kit?

The fact that most stuff has Strut suspension up front makes it unsuitable for a lot of kits, especially 7evens and Fake Snakes. These usually have twin wishbones at the front making the struts useless unless you use the hub carrier with adaptor like mk engineering do with the Sierra hubs. the Carlton rear setup could be adapted and the engine and box are highly suited to kit car use. The good thing about building a locost is that anything can be made to fit one way or another. I prefer this to being locked into a single donor.

What about say bringing an older saloon (Viva, Cortina, Chevette, even a Humber, Singer, Cresta/Velox (not particularly those, but an older popular classic type saloon car) upto date, and giving it an uprate brakes/suspension/drivetrain wise?
