VW golf bumper

A friend has dinged the front bumper on his mkII golf. It looks like it should be straightenable if we remove the plastic outer bit from the metal bar behind, then apply an appropriately sized hammer to the metal.

Does anyone happen to have a Haynes BOL for the mkII golf, and if so, would they mind terribly scanning/photo-ing the section on removing the front bumper, if there is such a section? I'm pretty sure I can see what needs undoing, but I'd be happier if I can blame it on Haynes when I get it wrong.

Cheers.

Is it a small bumper? Just so happens I've got a nearly new one knocking around, and I'm driving up to sheffield today. If you're not nearby it's a waste of time - they're about £30 from GSF delivered. The inside metal of the bumper is a sort of curvy W shape. I expect it'd be a f***er to bend straight.

The procedure for undoing the bumper is as follows - remove 2" or so black plastic gromet, somewhere near where the front wing meets the valance panel, and undo the bolt there, then undo the bolt further back on the same bracket. You'll need an extension for you socket. I've not got scanner so that's not happening today.

There was a copy of the bentley manual at

but it's gone now.

Yeah, it's small one, but we're up in Durham, so not too near, but thanks anyway. I'll have a go at straightening it, and once it's collapsed and is completely unrecoverable, I'll order one from GSF :)

Actually, that's excellent. That's exactly what I reckoned from a quick look last night, I was just a bit concerned that it looked to be an excessively substantial mounting for a bumper. Heh - maybe I'm just too used to Pug engineering :-)

Anyway, thanks for that.

Feck that then :D.

Heh. May be able to find it on the wayback machine?
